OMG say a little prayer for us both

Recommended Posts

Gosh I'm so glad we don't have one :vom:

Perhaps I won't be so keen to move to my dream isolated farm house in 10 years time........

Seagazer ..... IT'S OK TO HAVE ONE ... honest.

Just make sure that when you find your dream rural home your vendor has it cleaned and provides you with the necessary proof.

Then if you treat it properly it will need only the minimum of maintenance.

Our tank, hopefully should not need any more attention.

Yuk! When I was pregnant with my second baby (he who was 18 on Monday) we borrowed my OH's boss's french villa. That had to have the septic tank emptied whilst we were there - really didn't help my morning sickness, which had kicked in with a vengence when we got there. To be fair I can't remember it smelling that much but it was just the idea of well you know what

I dont think we have one - our drain blocks regularly and OH gets his long dobry wotsit out ( the thing u unblock drains with that goes round corners! not what youre thinking\) :shameonu: and wiggles it about and we tip a bottle of spirits of salts down. Does the job but not sure if we have a cesspit or septic tank - what lovely names for such unpleasant thing - trips orf the tongue :D

I feel a song coming on "I'm singing in the drain......"

They are similar, but not quite the same, a septic tank holds all the solids and the liquid seeps away, and a cesspit holds everything in & is emptied on a much more regular basis (I think that's the right way round  ).

If you are lucky enough to be on mains drainage, you don't need to even consider the horrors of a problem with one of these systems, but probably don't have views of rolling fields to enjoy everyday either!!

I moved to a house with a cesspit at 9, (but spent most weekends and holidays at my grandparents who had a septic tank) so have never really known much different. The visits of the "stink tank man" were greatly anticipated...... :vom::vom: ! Fortunately, as I mentioned above, ours is only emptied about once a decade, so we've got a long wait for the next visit  . Next door's CP is emptied about once every 3-6 weeks in the winter

What a fantastic subject for this time of a Wednesday night!!!

A local farmer has made quite a business of septic tank management. He comes along for £80 and empties it into a tank on the back of his tractor. It looks suspiciously like those they use for farm slurry .... I didn't ask where he puts it :!:

I bet the neighbours had a treat your OH in his b'day suit.

No, but I did, watching his neat fell-runner's bottom disappear up the stairs ...:oops:

this'll probably be censored ... sorry Mods

I remember that Lesley and Carl had similar problems when they moved in to the farm.

I think the Big Green Poo Machine Exploded or something!

It was Lesley who had the problem - she's much more practical than Carl

We had a similar problem at our old hose and had to rod drains weekly until we had the house extended and proper repairs made.

This house had a brand new, all singing, all dancing super-duper bio-digester...........connected to the original, 20 years old, soakaway

It turned out to be the soakaway that was blocked but we had to have the Big Green Poo Machine emptied three times in as many weeks instead of every 5 years! The soakaway only cleared when we had the floods a year ago - and we realised that was what the problem was

I'm glad you both made it out relatively unscathed!! - the naked dash from the back door to the shower sounds so familiar

...and the tankers go to the sewage farm to empty all their contents!
