Rubber chippings going cheep!

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I've just come back from B & Q where they are selling Dunweedin' rubber chippings for only £6.74 per 10kg bag! That's really cheap.

They have a range of colours, green, brown, terracotta, plum etc.

I've just bought the brown ones and they look really good.

Fingers crossed this works.

The girls seem to love them anyway. :D

Just phoned my local B&Q in Belvedere and they only do green or brown, wanted the plum, thought it would look great with a pink eglu, not fair will have to have brown.

OH going to dig up whole flower bed on Saturday...not happy as won silver gilt last year for garden!!!

Hi everyone,

These "rubber chippings" how do you use them? I have wood chippings on soil at the moment, only had girls three weeks so still the same wood chip and havent changed it. Obviously when changing the woodchip I will throw it away, what happens with the rubber chipping? Do you hose it down and if so where does the poop go

Hi,

The rubber chippings are said to last for 10 years so very economical! :D

Yes, the plan is to hose them down and then the poo will drain away.

For me it remains to be seen how that works, but others have said they work really well.

Fingers crossed.

The other thing is that they are heavier and so don't get kicked all over the place. Much neater.

I'm willing to give anything a try that saves money and hard work, so long as the chucks are happy. And they certainly love it.

Hi,

I've got the eglu and the normal size run.

I bought four bags. I've put one bag in and that clearly isn't enough.

I'm going to add my second bag today. I think that should be it.

I intend to return at least one bag to B & Q, possibly two.

I'm really pleased with them so far. I'm not sure where the poo is going but I certainly can't poo pick. It's just not there.

So far, so good.

Let us know how you get on,

I am determined to get the girls run sorted this weekend, onto rubber chippings. Do you put a membrane down first or just the rubber chippings straight onto grass? The amount of poo the girls (3) seem to generate, does it really just melt into the ground? I have to move the run every couple of days at the moment and it is pretty pooey in the run by then I can't imagine it just disappearing.............

Last question: does anyone know if the Homebase bags are the same size as the B&Q ones, they are £7.98 and they call it rubber mulch - is this the same stuff? (I have some vouchers I can use in Homebase but not in B&Q!).

Thanks for all help,

:D

Hi,

My rubber chippings are on a concrete base so I've not used a membrane. I think you would need to use one on grass, just to prevent the grass coming through.

Yes the poo magicly seems to disappear. I can't believe it and no smell. :D

When I think of all the work I had to do when mine were on grass just to keep the run clean. It's fantastic and I can really recommend.

Let us know how you get on. :D
