FoxFighters
My started laying a few weeks ago now and every day we have had one small But today, Mum collected a HUGE and asked me if I thought it was a double yolker. I wasn't sure but I hoped it would be because I'd never seen a double yolker before. She cracked it and inside were not one, but TWO bright yellow yolks!!! We were SOOO happy!!! But we only think it it was the by looking at the colour but you never know- it may have been the !... Do you think whoever laid it will always lay double yolkers from now on, or is it just a one- off? FoxFighter Holly, who is 9 but 10 really soon!!! x x x x x -Ginger-First 12/4/09 - Pepper- First 13/4/09 Live in a
Ain't Nobody Here
Congratulations . Sadly, they do seem to be one-offs . You may get more from her some day though .
Ygerna
Congratulations. I have had two double yolkers since keeping hens and its very exciting when you see them. I *think* I might have another one, waiting till the weekend to cook it so will have till wait till then to be sure. Sadly, you can't count on them laying these regularly but I believe that at the begining of their laying and towards the end you are likely to see them so, who knows when they will appear next. Seagazer
Congratulations As the others have said they are just bonuses that you may get now and again. We had two in one week but have not had any since. So lovely.

FoxFighters
ANOTHER ONE!!! Today, to mine and mum's delight, another double yolker was laid!!! And by comparing egg colour and sizes and shapes and stuff, we've now realised that it is actually the who is laying the double yolkers, not the !!! We think that the lays double yolkers quite often because her eggs are still quite small and tiny compared to the 's eggs which are HUGE!!!!! And she doesn't lay one every day either. We know it was her because we saw her on the nest- maybe she's saving them up??!! With many double yolkers hopefully to come, FoxFighter Holly x x x x x x

Cluckin Belle
my chooks started laying in april and in the first month i've had 4 double yolkers. each girl has laid one and my star girl has given me 2 the very large eggs (+65g) seem to have them in my case. the children like to weigh the eggs and plot them on a line graph. it's FUN MATHS they tell me!! FoxFighters
Great to get a double yolker my first tiny egg I was shocked to open it to find two little double yolkers and they taste so yummy...How did you cook it?? Fried???? My neighbour use to keep chickens post war he had 40 of them and he said u will never taste such delicious eggs and he was right! Congratulations & more double yolkers to come inde It's a real shame because we can't actually eat them. A few weeks ago our girls were both really poorly so we gave them a good dose of worming powder to see if it did the trick. The're all better now, but we found out hat after chickens eat worming powder, you can't eat the eggs for a month!!! We can't eat ours till about tuesday, but I agree with you Indie- fried eggs are the BEST!!! FoxFighter Holly x x x x x
Blackrocksrock
what wormer did you use as flubenvet powder means that you can eat the eggs.
FoxFighters
I don't know, Susan K. It came from the vets and I think it was just a standard cat/dog worming powder. Whatever it was, I'm sure it wasn't Flubenvet. FoxFighter Holly x x x x x
Blackrocksrock
It must have been panacur - ask for flubenvet next time as its no withdrawal for hens and the panacur is not licenced for hens and therefore you have to lose the eggs which is such a pity and flubenvet is the better wormer - better still order it online for yourself.
