Cinnamon
Yesterday Fern laid a huge egg, at least half the size again of a normal egg. Great I thought, I will have that for my breakfast tomorrow. Well, I broke it into the pan & was shocked to see 3 yolks, & no white, just very liquid blood. Its was horrific Being of a queasy nature,I immediately lost the coffee i had just drank, & it will probably be a long time before I can manage a fried egg again Has anyone else ever experienced anything like this before, & will Fern be OK? Redwing
Someone else posted about this a while back and I think the general concensus was that it was ok and then hen would be fine I have to admit this is my biggest fear when it comes to eggs and I wonder if anyone who has had some of my eggs has ever had a problem I would be the same as you if I saw one I think I have had a few blood spots in my hens eggs so now I crack them into a cup before they go in to the pan and give them the once over, anything dodgy goes to the dog
Lewis
I suppose it makes sense that you can have a triple yolker. Woman sometimes release 3 eggs and have triplets. Hopefully she will be ok.
Chillicat
I had really big one day. I was making a cake and I have a habit of always putting the eggs in last . I broke the fourth egg into my perfectly measured ingredients.............it was like a grizzly bloody eyeball thing inside . The yolk was covered in tiny red capilliary type things and the white was a pinky red goo that looked like red jelly. I fished it out sharpish, cracked another egg and carried on Not had another experience since
Raina
Ewww I would have cooked it in a cake or something and given it to my sister
Budgies
Hi Cinnamon, urgh, that must have been a bit of a shock for you! With any luck it's just an extreme case of a blood spot in an egg. It's basically caused by an intra-follicle haemorrhage before the ovum is released. Hopefully she should go back to her normal eggs after this, but I'd definitely keep an eye. Good luck
Blackrocksrock
I posted about this a long time ago last year and I opened one egg to find it full of blood and like you I was put off for ages and wondered if anyone I had given eggs to had had one - no one has said so presume not and never happened again to my knowledge - took me a while to eat eggs again! I am a bit squeamish anyway!. Had a lash to-day and a bit off again I am to-day too!.
