Mrs Frugal
Some steamed pudding recipes have breadcrumbs in like spotted dick and the nice old fashioned steamed chocolate sponge my boys love. I use some for coating scotch eggs and homemade chicken nuggets too.
Ygerna
I recall, way, way back in time when I was in school, we had to make a 'Queen of Puddings' and I feel fairly certain that it contained breadcrumbs. ...off to google it... Mrs Frugal
You can also use breadcrumbs on the top of a treacle tart (or crushed cornflakes). Either way, it's toothachingly droolworthy!
poachedegg
I make chicken nuggets/goujons with mine.

Cinnamon
I know its not a proper recipe, but if I have lftover bread I whizz it to crumbs, drench it in olive oil & feed it to the hens
Looney
OK. I'm slightly embarrassed to ask this question , but, how do you make breadcrumbs? Do you just whizz up the bread in a food processor? Does the bread need to be stale? Can you use the crusts as well? Do you just stick in freezer bags and whack them in the freezer to freeze them? chickencam
That's how I do mine. I have a Braun stick blender that slots onto a small bowl with a blade in it and I use that then stick them in the freezer.
Mrs Frugal
I've got a small electric food chopper which I use to make crumbs from leftover slices of bread, crusts and all. The hens get some but most of them go into a plastic food box in the freezer which I just keep topping up. They can be added, frozen to most of the recipes I use and take minutes to defrost if necessary. You can also make breadcrumbs with a grater but it's tedious and you end up grating more fingernails than bread or you can use a mincer but the crumbs tend to come out rather compacted! Mrs Webmuppet
Stuff a mushroom with the following mix (the mix freezes well too) Add some finely chopped parsley, a little chopped garlic and a pinch of parmesan. Pile the mix onto a large flat mushroom, drizzle with olive oil and microwave (or cook in the oven).
Tessa the Duchess
Poet you could make Lesley's posh nut roast, it uses breadcrumbs and is totally yum, I make it again last night Tessa
Looney
Thanks! I have one of those Braun stick blender with different attachments too. We always have left over bread that goes stale before we manage to eat it so now I can try some of these recipes too! Yay!
Saronne
I know its not a proper recipe, but if I have lftover bread I whizz it to crumbs, drench it in olive oil & feed it to the hens Sounds good as a stuffing for a roast chicken As for a live hen, wouldn't it give them the, erm, squits? Guest
thanks for the ideas so far I used some tonight to make I suppose what you'd call chicken goujons? Strips of chicken dipped in beaten egg then dipped in breadcrumbs mixed with garlic salt, chilli powder and jerk seasoning and then done in the oven for 30 mins. We dipped them in that home made chilli jam, they were really nice

Looney
Well, I made breadcrumbs and used them to coat fishy veg cakes that I made for Bogwoppit's tea! Very succesful - he ate the lot!
