tara
One of my hens is 4 yrs old and has not been well she has yellow stuff comming from her rear end it smells very bad and just runs out all of the time. She is being treated with baytril and its almost 2 weeks now and theres no change. She has become very thin and dose not move very much.Ive had her in the house with us but on warmer days l put her in the garden for a wonder. But my worry is how long shall l leave her before making the decision to end it for her thats not somthing l want to do but am l being fair ? my 2 yr little boy is running about the garden and l dont want him stepping in what shes leaving behind. What would you all do ? She eating a tiny tiny amout fluids are the same. This infection seems to be getting her down but if l turn her over you can see all of her bones
Redwing
That doesnt sound very good, did a vet prescribe the Baytril and what did he/she say it was?
Daphne
I don't know how to say this gently, but she sounds in a bad way and she is 4 years old which is a reasonable age for a hen. I am presuming you have taken her to the vet and so you know what is wrong? If not, then I suggest you do that straightaway - there might be a obvious solution to help. If she is already under a vet's guidance I would take her back for an updated prognosis. Seeing her bones is not right whichever way you look at it - she's obviously not eating/drinking and has no strength. I'm not familiar with runny yellow discharge so I can't guess at what might be wrong. However, I don't think I would/could continue in your present situation of wondering whilst your girl deteriorates.
Budgies
Oh Tara, I'm sorry, that doesn't sound very good, no wonder you're worried. There is a sticky in poultry health which mentions bright yellow poo - I'll link it below. viewtopic.php?f=41&t=29183 Does any of this look familiar? I'd say she needs to see a vet pretty urgently by the sounds of things.

Egluntyne
I too agree that she sounds very poorly and needs to be seen again by the vet. Sorry.
tara
The vet tried her on baytril a week and half ago.But she did not pick up so l took her to another vet this afdernoon .But the lady vet checked her over and said how ill she was and that the kinder thing would be to have her put to sleep She had lost alot of weight but the vet said that with birds you often dont know till its to late as there very good at hiding that there ill till its to late. She was one of my first ever chickens and l will miss her feels funny not seeing her run about the garden.Thankyou every body for your kinds words

Budgies
So sorry to hear that Tara. I hope you can take some comfort from the fact that she's not suffering any more - it's always so hard saying goodbye to our girls. Hugs for you
MedusA
So sorry to hear about your hen, Tara. It sounds like you did everything for her that you could. I'm sure her 4 years with you were very happy. RIP little hen. *hugs*
Daphne
I'm so sorry - these things are never easy but you gave her a good time whilst she was with you; unfortunately knowing when its time to let go is part of the experience that the hens bring us. Just hold onto the good memories. RIP little one.
