theherd123
My grandparents always told me that swearing was a sign of a poor vocabulary - i think they are right. Must admit i do swear mainly in the car or when i hurt myself. I cant abide the C or T words at all, they make me cringe. The kids at work are very careful with their language when im about as i pick them up for it all the time. They swaer and i ask them what they said they soon look very
gooner.girl
I hate hearing the kids swear at work and am always picking them up on it - they're only primary school age but they obviously pick it up from their parents and the t.v - i have 8 year olds quoting little britain at me which i think is awful - a. that they are allowed to watch it so young and b. still be up that late when its on. Grief, i sound like an old women! I'm only 26, honest! I try to avoid swearing and never blaspheme (being a christian) but i have to say when i go and watch "Ooops, word censored!"nal my language can degenerate a bit and don't even get me started on exactly what i think of teddy sheringham! Egluntyne
No one has mentioned Jamie Oliver's swearing yet. I think he is tremendous but he can't put two sentences together without using foul language. On other threads Omleteers have practically canonised him. I find it intriguing that he has not been mentioned here on this topic which has caused so many interesting people to be excercised. Just an observation. PS... the odd naughty word has slipped out of my mouth on occassion.
buffie
Yes love jamie too, Comics are my worse offenders and the older ones at that. Not sure wht it is just not funny to me. I think if you like someone a bit of swearing is ok, there you go dan Well done for keeping a cool head this morning. I've stopped shouting in the car in case I have a potential client in the other car. I do shout and sear in my head though BBx

PS... the odd naughty word has slipped out of my mouth on occassion. I have to agree with you here - I know he doesn't swear with any malice and the words are just part of his vocabulary, but it is a shame because the very children he wants to be interested in his message are either a. going to think it is acceptable to swear or b. not be allowed to watch the programmes I did mention this last year when his first programme on school dinners was out - I wanted to show it to my grandchildren but could only find a very short, edited, piece that I would let them watch. Oh! - and the odd naughty word slips out of my mouth as well - usually when I'm driving - but nothing terrible.
Guest
PSGot to work this morning - 60 miles, horrible rain and didn't lose my temper / swear once! Well done Dan! Re Jamie Oliver - I would agree with what has been said. He is a good example of someone who doesn't even know he's swearing and we don't find it particularly offensive either because it doesn't mean anything. So what's the point? I bet he doesn't swear in front of his children though - so he must be aware.

Mel (& Paul)
I try not to swear and say "botheration" a lot (& Paul) finds that the people he works with swear every other word and think he's "posh" because he doesnt (not sure how they work that one out ) I have a friend who not only swears copiously, but tends to stick the swear word in the middle of other words sometimes I dont always understand what he is saying

I used to swear in the car , well just the b word actually, it has now been replaced with THANK YOU! which I find less aggressive to use, and therefore I keep calmer.
