How Quickly Does Albendazole Work?

My DD who is currently in the midst of her GSCEs has been given the oportunity to join an expedition to the himalayas next June. The catch is she has to raise the £3000 to pay for it. It is through a bonafide company and she has already asked her Dad for a summer job at his office to start the ball rolling. With the credit crunch and everything I wondered if any omleteers had any good ideas for fundraising? It isnt a holiday - they have to learn to manage money and make decisions about which options they will take before they go, then have a 12 - 14 day trek through the foothills upto 5000m above sea level before spending a week or two in a school project in rajastan, either building or teaching english.

They then have a few days r&r before flying home.

Any ideas gratefully appreciated - it could be one off things or maybe ideas for a regular income at weekend? It just seeems a huge amount to me but she is up for it and I think I am just being a Mum!!

why doesn't she do a sponsered climb of one of the peaks? Is she quite fit as I would imagine she will need to be for the trip? Something physical will get her fit for being in the himalayas and raise money at the same time?

I gave money to some lads in a supermarket recently for packing my shopping bags for me. I'm pretty sure they were raising funds for something like this. Could your DD approach your local store and see if she could do similar?

 

Could she do errands for people eg mowing lawns, washing cars? Are there any local fetes she could sell cakes or similar at? They may even waver the stall fee if she explains the reasons she wants it. Car boot sale?

This sounds like "World Challenge" to me, in my experience the students who are going get together and organise a lot of fund raising activities as a group. I've seen many car washes happening in school as well as things like an "X-Factor" for the STAFF (I was Sandy Thom!), quiz nights, a sponsored event etc.

 

Has she got together yet with the other group members??

My friend had to make £3000 to go on a trip to Iceland. She did it all by cakes made to order, so she made a menu etc. It worked very well and she did it in about 5 months.

i have had him carpet cleaning for me, washing the car, other neighbours have also had him car washing, mowing the lawn, babysitting etc.

Ebay-ing her own unwanted belongings and getting members of the extended family and friends to clear out their clutter and give her that to sell too. She may not make a huge amount per item but it all adds up over the year and means she has to part with some things to get something else she wants

 

Egg money in return for chook mucking-out

 

Selling freshly made vegetable soup to weight/health conscious friends? Veg is cheap to buy or grow, so there's a decent profit margin.

 

Selling proper ice-cream made with free-range eggs to the non-weight/health conscious friends ! She could have the eggs instead of the money for mucking-out chooks and produce simple recipes like vanilla and chocolate flake to start off with (it's fab!)

 

The usual money for birthday and Christmas all to go towards it.

 

Pet-sitting? She's a bit young yet for house-sitting but she look after pets and water gardens while people are on holiday?

 

You lot got to go youth hostelling as a school trip ? Most I remember doing was a day trip to the zoo!

Ha ha yes! We went on a trip and thought it was very exciting and miles away - when we got older our parents informed us it was billericay (15mins away). We also got very excited when the teachers gave us 'post' from our parents. This was wonderful but mum told me they wrote the letters BEFORE we went and gave them to the teachers!

 

We also went to Wales (tenby) and Yorkshire and they were the best holidays ever and the best memories.

 

Good luck with raising the money I am sure she'll do it - sounds great.

Thanks for all the wonderful ideas. Yes it is a World Challenge but they are responsible for raising their share whether it is done it group activities or not. There will be some events organised at school and some by World challenge but they have been told that the summer holidays after exams have finished give them a huge opportunity to raise moeny with no other ties on their time. So there is a car boot sale across the road in the park before the Rose Queen festival in June that we will provide junk - I mean stuff -for her to sell. Friends have offered to take her and her friend on a sponsored hike in the peaks or the lakes as they do lots of that anway. there will be bag packing and sponsored run organised by World challenge, and hopefully her dad is getting her a summer job where he works. Don't know how much that will raise but it will be a start. Please keep the ideas coming if there are any more.

What about registering at easyfundraising.com then you could ask family, friends and omlet people to buy stuff on the internet and dontate to you cause.

What about selling Krispy Creme Doughnuts? The run a charity system whereby you can buy the product from them once a month I think. We have a scuba club and the boys raised about £300 last week for very little effort on their part other than collecting the doughnuts and selling them at break and lunchtime. They sold each one for £1 and amazingly enough the boys all bought them!!! ( They buy them by the box from the supplier and sold them over two days).

How about asking Omlet to sponsor her- maybe she could wear their logo on her coat or something while up in Himalaya?

 

They might even donate some money, perhaps as a fee for your long-ago tv appearance .....
