4m x 3m Omlet pen, cube, new auto door still boxed and coop light

Please help me! As you know I adopted little Orchid the cat from my sisters farm. We think she is now about 7 months old.

She has had a bit of a belly on her, but not really thought anything of it.

Anyway she has just got up, plonked herself on the cool tiled kitchen floor on her side & is panting. We have just had a wet patch from her - I presume her waters have broke - how long before a kitten is born? What do I need to do?

I've never had a cat but we had a cat adopt our garden and have kittens and they had a few cats on the farm.

 

What they used to do there was put her in a big rabbit hutch and pretty much leave her to it. She'd make herself comfortable and have the kittens.

When they're born you must make sure all the membranes are away from the kittens face, and that the umbilical cord isn't around its neck. I can't remember anyone doing it at the farm, but the internet says you should tie off the umbilical cord about an inch long with thread.

If she's struggling, have a look an the internet or phone the vets.

I dont know what to suggest, I think cats normally sort themselves out with regards to kittens and everything, but I think a phone call to a vet maybe in order if you are worried

No advice I'm afraid but sending some good vibes that she manages ok. Cats do tend to do it themselves.

Cats generally do it themselves but just keep an eye on her! my neighbours cat had kittens last year and the first one came out fine but then the rest got stuck! the internet said to leave them for a while but when they got to the veets she wasnt very happy with them for leaving her so long!! give your vets a call thats the safest option! Hope it all goes ok!

Well nothing more happened after that episode. She later got up & ate like a pig, washed & got in her little bed. We made a birthing box for her just incase. However she was ultra soppy last night, I had a job going bed as she was all over me & round my feet - would not leave me alone. She has been round me this morning too. She is again in her little house purring very very loud, staring at me all content. I'm very confused. But I have red that since that clear liquid, the next stage would be 24 - 36 hours time, which would be tonight. I mean, why did she lay on her side, pant & expel clear liquid like wee, but it wasn't & she moved to a different area and another patch of clear liquid.

If nothing over night tonight, I will ring the vet tomorrow morning to get her checked out.

What, with broody hens & a pregnant (I think) cat - I'll have an eventful May!

No more news - She has been asleep, washed & now eating again. Just waiting for the vet nurse to ring back.

Poor little cat, she's only a kitten herself. Naughty tom cat wherever you are !!

We've only had her 5 weeks & she's not been allowed out. We've been taming her & getting her used to us, so we could then take her the vets to be done, microchipped etc.

So if she is having kitties, then it must be from a Tom cat off the farm ( a feral). She's not huge, just a bit saggy bellied.

Nurse is in a meeting, but will ring when she comes out.

When my first cat had kittens you could see them move around in her stomach when she was lying down. Can you see anything?

 

Its so exciting. My cat just sorted it all out herself, they're quite clever like that

Well the vets got back to me & asked lots of questions. As her belly is not hard or her teats pink & swollen - they are not convinced she is having kitties. She could just just be having her first season. They couldn't explain the panting & her rolling on her side & the liquid from her back end though. I'm to keep an eye on her. But so long as she eats, drinks, poos & wees - they were not worried.

So it could be nothing after all that. You never know though do you?

She is curled up on my knee at the moment. Bless!

Maybe its just a phantom pregancy to do with being taken away from the Tom at the farm or something.

Is she very vocal? Quite often when cats are in season/on call they have really yowly meows and they lie down with their back end up in the air. Having said that I had a really quiet cat that we never knew was on call and she ended up with a womb infection called pyometra which nearly killed her. If she was having kits then her teats wuld be large and pink. Just keep a close eye on her and if there is any more liquid I would take her to the vets. x

When we took her the caravan with us, one night she kept us awake meowing, we woke up & saw her dangling from the skylight!

Everything seems to add up to her having her season. No more liquid, acting fine now & as cheeky as ever.

It can be difficult to tell if they're pregnant, I took evie to the vet two weeks before she gave birth to FIVE kittens, and he said that she wasn't pregnant. But if she's at the giving birth stage you can feel them moving around quite happily. Just rest your hand on her side for a while and see if you can feel anything. Otherwise, seasons do involve a lot of lolling about in some cats, Saffy is having her first right now (it's that time of year I'm afraid) and it's mostly involved her collapsing on the floor, looking exhausted and being a bit pathetic. She's oozed a little from her botty, but some kitties also do a little wee when they're in season - Cleo used to spray Anyway, will all clear up once madam is speyed, so not to worry

They are TOTALLY shameless. Saffy is on house arrest, and keeps reversing up to the french doors with her tail to the side, flirting with the four hundred and twenty three tomcats who are totally desperate to get into the house.
