mostin
Has everybody seen the summer newsletter from the BHWT? If you follow the link and go to the full PDF you can print out a letter to send to the Mr Kipling cake company, asking them to use free range eggs in their products. The letter asks you to attach feathers from your ex-batt girls to the letter. I sent my letter today , I hope it does some good. http://www.bhwt.org.uk/newsletters/Summer09.php Above is the link that leads you to the news letter. Below is a copy of what is written in the letter. Customer Care Manager Mr Kipling Cakes Fish Dam Lane Carlton BARNSLEY South Yorkshire S71 3HQ Date: Dear Sir A FEATHER FOR FREE RANGE! We, the undersigned are ex-battery hens now enjoying a free range retirement thanks to the work of the Battery Hen Welfare Trust, the UK’s only registered charity for caged hens . The BHWT have helped over 135,000 of us to enjoy a second chance in life since they began in April 2005. Along with our hen keepers we believe you should help our working colleagues, currently stuck in their cages, by introducing a range of Mr Kipling products using free range eggs, preferably British ones! You claim to make exceedingly good cakes, but we don’t think you currently use exceedingly good eggs. We would be grateful if you would respond to our keeper, YOUR NAME………………….to inform her/him if you intend to start sourcing free range eggs; there is a serious message in this lighthearted letter. Thank you, we look forward to hearing from you and sincerely hope that Mr Kipling will soon join other leading food manufacturers who are using free range eggs as ingredients. Yours faithfully STICK YOUR FEATHER ABOVE AND WRITE THE NAME OF EACH OF YOUR HENS UNDERNEATH Battery Hen Welfare Trust Registered charity No: 1109060 I hope some more of you write letters on behalf of your girls . buffie
Thanks Mostin, I've been waiting for a link to take you to some new templates too, we have others on the way for those without hens or with hens that aren't ex bats. We'll have a web link soon but this will start you off and I'll love to hear from you when you write, just email me jayne.cox@bhwt.org.uk. mostin
Sorry Buffie , didn't mean to jump the gun . I will have a look at the other templates when you post them as I have girls who aren't ex-batts too and I would love to be able to write on behalf of them as well. I will let you know if I get a reply, and what it says. I hope they get sent enough feathers to stuff a mattress .
Lewis
I'll me more than happy to send the one for hens that aren't ex batts Good idea, and hopefully it will grab their attention. I do hope that anyone opening the letters isn't allergic to feathers.
Egluntyne
You aren't jumping the gun if it is already out in the public domain Mostin! A super idea. I'll be out feather gathering first thing.
buffie
Absolutely not jumping the gun Thanks for posting Mostin . The next template letters don't require feathers but are in support of the Campaign but hey attach one anyway if you like! If you can spread this to other forums and pass it onto friends, family, anyone it's much appreciated and let's help MR K make a free range french fancie and a welfare friendly bakewell! Remember BHWT wants to bring hens from cages and the cage to remain empty, supporting British farmers make the transition to free range egg production, before 2012. Those hidden eggs and our shopping baskets are the way we can all make a real difference. WE all know the power of positive Campaigning so you really can make a difference! Well done guys Buffie x

Seagazer
I'm glad there will be other templates as I didn't know whether to pretend that I'd got ex-batts! I shall gladly send a letter.
BeckyBoo
Me too, haven't got a printer so they will have to have a handwritten one (not sure my ex-batts will appreciate me chasing them round the run hanging on to their tails so might just have to take any old feathers I happen to find in there, provided they're brown of course! ) Excellent idea, my ex-batts friends may well write in support of their housemates too! mostin
I'm glad there will be other templates as I didn't know whether to pretend that I'd got ex-batts! I shall gladly send a letter. I would have been debating if to pretend or not if this letter had come out 3 weeks ago , as I've only had my ex-batts for 1 1/2 weeks, so I'm glad they'll be other templates. So glad lots of people are joining in and writing letters . Just for the record I didn't pull any feathers out of my girls, I just picked up loose feathers from the run . buffie
You may be aware that the CIWF good egg awards have been announced today and Premier Foods are amongst the recipients. Premier Foods produce Mr Kipling cakes. Mr Kipling does not currently use free range or barn eggs and this award simply means that Mr Kipling promises to go non caged by 2012. Your feather letters and support of the BHWT campaign are very important so please continue to write and send your letters showing your support for free range. Template letters now ready to download from our website http://www.bhwt.org.uk Thanks Buffie x :)

Thanks I had a look but missed it. I was expecting it to talk about chickens, so might write my own letter with similar lines to the ex-batt one, but put it as my ex-batt friends or something Makes it more personal too.
