Time delay between cube and adding extension run?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering how long it was after getting your cubes that you added an extra bit! And was it because you found it 'not quite big enough' or because the chook envy knows no bounds of numbers?? I am now seriously in love with a skyline, but would only get more chooks with a cube to go in..but..am wondering if they will still cry to come out and play regardless of how big the run is..? If we have a cube plus extension,we might as well give up half the garden, and Im not sure I want to go quite that far or the cost either :?

I can only give you my experience, it hasn't been a month yet, I have cube with the standard run, originally 4 girls but we lost one, so now we have 3.

I am already planning a WIR, it was tight with 4, OK just about with 3, as can only give them 2 to 3 hours free range time in the week (longer at weekends). However, I want another 2 girls (at least!) and theres no way I could fit another 2 in the cube run, so a WIR it is!!!

I only wish I'd gone for a WIR first as last! But then I didn't fully appreciate how addictive being a chicken mummy is!:D

Hmmm needs a bit of thinking about...a WIR would have to be at least 8 x 5 to make me happy  but that would take up most of one side of the garden(its not huge about 20 x 20 ) A cube on its own would double the space they have at the mo, but I only have 2. I dont want to go get another 2 to find they are back to the same amount of space pro rata that the 2 have now...Cube + extension is a fair bit to save up.

An Eglu comes with a standard 2m run, you then can add a 'converter' which adds another metre (its about an extra £50) the converter sorts out the slope from the Eglu run and makes it straight, you can then add extensions of 1m each if you wish

A run with the converter is 3m long and is fine for 3 chickens, 4 is pushing it unless you can let them have some free ranging time

I ordered cube then added first extension a week before delivery.. then 2 months later added another 2 extensions...so 5 meters..should have had WIR but due to move house so impossible for now..

You'll never stay with the standard

Likewise went from planning to get 2 hens.. to 3 came back with 4.. hatched another 3 and now have 7 and plan to hatch a couple more
