Never thought I would say this - I am going to miss my girls

Recommended Posts

Going on holiday tomorrow and girls are going back to breeder for a holiday.

Whilst I understood everybody's sentiments over their hens, I never thought in a million years that I would be feeling sad because I am going to miss them. All of a sudden 2.5 weeks is just too long to be away from the chickens and my cats:(

Will the hens be happy?...will they be missing home or are they not clever enough as long as there is food and shelter they don't care!

I know deep down that they will be ok ....but they are going from roaming around an extremely large garden to a standard run at the farm...does concern me.

We're off too for 2 and a bit weeks.

My lot are being looked after by 2 sets of neighbours- one os a want to be chook owner and one has her own chooks already. One puts them to bed and the other gets them up! So it's a real operation.

Oh and there's the cat being fed by the two of them. I think she may be on to a good thing.

We're dropping the dog off at my son's on the way to the ferry - so up at 4am tomorrow...

It's at this stage I ask - is it worth it? I'll tell you when I get back

I do sympathise, I used to have bad dreams about them when I was a way on holiday, what a bundle of laughs I am eh?!

They will be fine though, so you go and have a fantastic time, and believe me, the post-holiday blues won't be nearly so horrible as you come back to your wonderful girls!! :D

I left my girls with my mum for a week in april and was so worried they would be unhappy. They were absolutely fine and just adapt to whatever situation they are in.

You will miss them more than they miss home but my girls were definately pleased to see me when i got back!!

Hi All

Well I am back and everybody was right...my hens did not miss me. Didn't even come running out of the cube they were boarding in to greet me. Cheeky devils

All home now and safely tucked in for the night because I am going to sleep!
