Thanks Andrew your info is very helpful. Tarpaflex is out of stock of the 4.6m glass tarp but I've found it on another site. It's slightly more expensive but hey

 

I think I'll wait until the run is up -next week hopefully- before I order the tarp so I can see exactly where it needs to go. Our garden is quite big and exposed so I shall try to work out which way the rain will come in.

 

ANH- have you got tarps on your run or just the roof Does the Hemcore stay dry with just a roof?

Yes, I have got tarps on the 2 most exposed sides. My garden is very (very) windy and quite exposed so they protect from wind and rain. I roll them up in the summer (but more often than not I have to roll them down again ).

 

I bought one massive tarp and an eyelet making set and made a few to size.

 

(You can see them in my signature link although they're not nearly as clean now .)

... and made the wise choice to get him to put it up. I know we could, but we are doing loads of other diy & allotmenty stuff, etc so it would probably sit there and torment us for a while.

 

Due second week in March so a good 2 weeks for OH to sort the slab base.

We have just ordered our run It's not a Tony one as he is not delivering to Scotland at the moment Planned to start clearing the site today to get slabbing started next weekend but although it's a beautiful sunny day here it is absolutely freezing and the ground is solid Maybe it will warm up in the afternoon

It's going to be 15 x 6 x 6 foot with a 12" skirt, a sloping roof (so we can add translucent roof panels and the water will run off), a full door and a stable door - easy to get to eggs without going in the run and a nice big corner perch. Got the stable door idea from ANH. Still to decide whether to fully slab or just do the perimeter - seems to be a common dilemma

Have just been and bought 6 bales of Hemcore for my new Tony which is coming next Friday Can hardly wait !!!

 

Also ordered glass tarps for side and one end ( from Tarps UK as Tarpaflex are out of the size I need- similar price tho ) With the sloping roof it should keep the Hemcore dry

 

Can't decide whether to change the name of my set up to Peckingham Palace

I blame OH, I told him there would be someone with that name and nearly fell off the chair when it was allowed. Now what was that second egg used for...scramble?? meringue?? or how about 'WIR - formerly known as Poached Egg (briefly)'.

 

If it is causing distress and confusion I'll make him change - and the name

Really? For me it's the exact opposite, as I find Photobucket much better in terms of grabbing the links to include photo's in forum posts. I guess it all depends on how you use the various sites, they all have to be a bit different to set them apart. As it happens I've got various picures spread across ImageShack, PhtoBucket and Flickr, but s I said, I do have a preference for photobucket.

I can't get Photobucket to behave for the sizes of photos . I only use Flickr for the forum so have a tried and tested routine which works every time . Each to their own .

Can you tell me how you fixed your glass tarps to your WIRS I was going to use the bungees off the 2 Omlet shades I have but they don't look that secure for a big area of tarp that I'm going to use

I think both used ... and what we eventually plan to do ... is to use metal screw hooks

They come in all different sizes, so just choose the ones you want

Lewis is right, I did use hooks but try to get ones that are shorter than those in his photo or the tarp will hang too far out from the run side and will flap about in the wind (rain would also get behind it). I tried to screw them in so that the hook is the only bit sticking out. So be careful you don't get hooks that are too long or they'll come through the other side of the wood.

 

(If you look very carefully at the photos in my signature link, you can see the hooks. )

I got mine from allplas.co.uk. They stock 6' x 8', 6' x 10', 6' x 12', 6' x 15' and also 8' x 10'.

thanks I have found some at both those places! I oviously did not look very hard .

 

I think I am going to need to cut at least one of them .. Can anyone also recommend the best way to do this ? tarp tape and extra eyelets ??

Also, what is the best way to attach them .. I think I would rather bungee them down than screw hooks in.
