seraphine
My h has rescued a baby bluetit from our cat. It's breathing but injured and bleeding under its wing. What should we do? I'm holding it atm and am so upset, its so tiny. My h thinks its kinder to put it out of its misery but I cant bear the thought.
mostin
Heat is the most important thing to birds in shock. Wrap it in a towel and put it in a dark box with a hot water bottle or something. Honey in water is good for birds in shock too.
Cyber Chook
Hi, oh dear, poor you and it. I think all you can do is keep it somewhere warm, quiet and dark, like a small box with hay. You could try feeding it chopped up tiny worms maybe, if it seemed to be recovering later on. But sadly, I think the shock and fear will likely be too much for the poor little fella, especially as he's injured. Do you have a local wildlife rescue centre or vet that could advise? If you have some homoeopathic remedies in the house, you could try aconite for the shock, maybe, in a little water from a dropper. seraphine
Thanks both, it died in my hand about 5 minutes ago. Poor little thing.
mostin
So sorry to hear that. I know it feels. We have cats, and I know it's only nature but it still upsets me.

seraphine
Thanks all. I'm surprised how upset I am. I think what got me was its smallness and vulnerability, I couldn't help but attach human qualities and think of my own babies. Silly really! I must be hormonal. mostin
It's never silly to mourn the death of a living thing. They are so small and helpless it's only natural it would stir up your maternal instincts.
Cyber Chook
Oh, shame. No, I don't think it's silly. I always feel a bit sad, especially when you see how hard the parents have worked to raise their babies. I have a couple of blue tits who come to take the live mealworms I put out for them at this time of year, and they're so scruffy and run-down-looking (takes me back).
