Beautiful chickies! (hatch)

The Brahma is so cute as are the silkies. Hope the little black one is doing ok.

Thanks Emma... at the moment little one is holding its own but still rather feeble whereas the others are all starting to pop heads out and try feed etc..

Fingers crossed it gains strength over next few days

Your Speckled Sussex is darker than my Light Sussex chicks were so I'd say it's fine.

Lovely pics

Thanks Griffin... do your light sussex all have a tiny comb showing..if not then think mine must be another boy as the tiny little comb is the same as the one on the male CLB chick I have.

Both our buff Sussex's had very distinct combs - hence a few weeks of er, um, er, etc! In fact one had very pointy bits on it. Plus they had huge legs - still do, but the feathers gave them away. Eggy, I don't think that's a speckled - no stripes?? But my goodness look at those crops - huuuuge! They are all terrific babes, but I rather love the Brahma feet.

Oh thanks good then so sussex could still be a girl although very bold so will have to wait and see!

I also thought it should have stripes so did wonder.. except I picked up the egg myself from the breeding pen of pure speckled so who knows what it will turn out to be then

Male speckled! Just kidding - have no idea. But our two were both squabbling for top notch - then the Maran got in on the act. The eldest Sussex always liked higher ground - and so does the Maran, but now the youngest one is more or less chilled out (and more human friendly) and only squabbles when the others pick a fight. Sometimes all three are flapping at each other, but usually it is the Maran and oldest Sussex that squabble. The Maran nearly pecked DD in the eye last night, but was quite happy to sit on her shoulder, while she was saying "get it off, get it off it want's to kill me!" Funny how Tipsy became an "it" so quickly.

The are all lovely. :D

Not convinced about the Speckles Sussex though tbh. The one on the right in the picture below is a Speckled Sussex and looks very different to yours.

Could it be a Light Sussex, like the one on the left in my photo? :D

As usual I think you must be right as thought the same when I first saw it and nothing like your speckled :D just very puzzled as I collected the egg from the pen myself and wrote on it straight away!

Maybe some kind of throw back or the egg rolled from another pen .. what with six toes and this one I've got a real odd brood this time
