Im sorry, I know there has been a gazillion threads about worming but I have just got my flubenvet and its the newer flubenvet 1% medicated premixture. Has anybody used this, it contains 5% flubendazole and states 6g of product to 2kg of feed. I was hoping to use the smidgeon in a grape technique but now am unsure of quantities

I used it, and had to mix it up with the feed. Next time I am going to get the other type, its such a FAFF having to do the mixing and I am still not convinced that it was mixed in properly (and believe me I did lots of shaking and mixing and then adding some more feed and shaking and mixing ).

Thats what Im worried about, if i mix it with the feed some hens will probably get more than others and I wont know if they are getting the right amount. If I could give it in a grape, then i would know they have all had a dose. Oh Im so confused now

I used it and worked out what they ate over 7 days and came to a figure for flubenvet - I divided it by 7 and then by 3 hens and fed it to them on sweetcorn each day for the 7 days till they were done - could not be bothered mixing but if you want to mix add some sunflower oil to the pellets to make it easier to mix in.

I did the same as you and brought the 1% instead of the 2%! | also got soooo confused what was the best thing to do. I must admit that in the end I did dose them with the grape but just put more that the tiny amount that they were talking about for the 2% one!! I know that this wasnt probably correct, but my reasoning was like you were saying that you dont know who gets what if you dose the food, so I sort of reckoned that this is what I would do. If you work out a better/more accurate way to measure the 1% I would be very interested.

I have used it (so far so good too), you just need a big enough container to mix it in (I used a shoe box). Measure out 2kg of feed, add the 6g of Flubenvent with the supplied spoon and mix well, like you are mixing a cake batter or something, keep mixing until you can no longer see any white powder. Then feed to the chickens as normal. Feed this to them over a period of 7 days, this way they will get enough food with Flubenvent in it to kill any worms.

 

(Using this method, my chicken's health improved after 1 day!)

Thats the point, if you mix it in with the feed at the correct dose the chickens will get the right dose compared to the amount of feed they eat. A little bantam and a big brahma would get the same dose with the grape method, but mixing it in with the feed they get the right dose as its given compared to the amount of food they eat.

 

I mixed mine up in a little plastic bin so it was easy to mix and weigh out.

It is best to be given with their feed. Putting some on a grape or other treat can cause their livers to be overloaded as it's all in one hit.

Thank you so much , I did go with the 'in the food' method and so hopefully all will be good. Ooooo who knew chickens would cause so much worry but more than make up for it with them being so adorable
