at last *fingerscrossed* some good news!

Recommended Posts

My ED (you may have read about her foot in previous posts which she hurt THREE months ago!!!) anyhoo, she had another appointment at the hospital today. We got there, prepared for our hour wait. But no, about 20 mins later we were called in. The chap (a new one this time) asked the history (she hurt it during hockey, but was only running, didn't fall or twists it) and he says its Plantar fasciitis and has referred her to the physio for an ultrasound treatment (unsure what that entails or even how it helps, as I've only ever experienced it when preggars or YD had her kidneys and hips scanned, so I shall Google it). If that doesn't work then it will be a steriod injection :( So it seems after all the undecided diagnosis (thought it was broken, then a sprain) she shouldn't have been exercising or weight bearing on it at all and if they knew what it was earlier, she would have been off the crutches ages ago  It's quite lucky the original doctor she was seeing wasn't there as I would have made my frustration very clear. Not got angry or shouted. Knowing me I'd have probably burst into tears as I often do when cross. But just to let him know that it is unacceptable to let anyone go for so long without knowing what was the matter.

*feel better now*

thank goodness they know what the problem is and can now treat it accordingly. When I broke my arm they were talking about ultrasound treatment for me when I went to physio. I think they send sound waves through the bone/tissue and it helps the healing!? Not sure as I didn't have it in the end.

Hope she feels better soon :D

I had ultrasound for a torn ligament, as Poet says it helps the healing process.

I do sympathise, plantar fasciitis is very painful, and can be quite hard to clear up. My friend has it at the moment and she's had the injection and is still in pain. She has some special inserts for her shoes which are supposed to help. I hope now your daughter's got a diagnosis they can do something to sort it out.

I have plantar faciitis on my left foot. I never actually 'did' anything to it, but my heel became more and more painful each time I stood and put pressure on it, until I was hobbling around until the pain receded. :(

I eventually went to my doctor, who diagnosed it immediately and put me in anti inflamatories and said if that didn't work, I'd need a steroid injection. Fortunately it did, but I still have this, what feels like a 'moveable' lump, on my heel. Apparently, it's a bony heel spur.

I have to be careful what shoes I wear, anything with a hard sole, or heels are out and I find it uncomfortable walking on hard surfaces in bare feet (I can feel the lump!). Trainers, Crocs and Birkenstocks are much better for me and sometimes I have padded inserts in my shoes..

I'm always really careful now, as I don't want it to trigger the pain again.

I sympathise with your daughter, Bluekarin and hope she's pain-free soon.
