Schwournes
How much water do ducks need? I do not understand what type of container is necessary - I can not afford a huge lake or anything like that. Also, if you empty, clean and refill the container daily, do you need a pump?
Lesley
We have the one of the ponds that they sell at the Domestic Fowl Trust. We dug a sump where the pond was to go and filled it with stones and gravel. The pond sits on top and is emptied daily onto the sump area so that the water drains away easily, instead of flooding the lawn. We don't use a pump. We also have a water butt, filled from the hosepipe and linked to a galvanised drinker with a cover. This provides clean water for them to drink and to dunk their heads. Ducks are very messy and mess in their pond as soon as the clean water goes in

Any shallowish container will do...get something easy to clean though indie
rachel2390
Hi. I recently got 2 Aylesbury ducks and bought them a plastic sandpit/pool from Argos. At the time it was on special offer at £13 and there are 2 halves to it. From what I have read I don't think they need vast amounts of water but this one is great as they can both get in it and it is very easy to clean. I have been using the water to put on my plants and then just give it a blast with the hosepipe and refill it. Like the other posters have mentioned the water does not stay clean for very long and I have to change it at least every 2 days, every day if possible. It is a much cheaper option than sinking a pond into the ground and buying pumps etc.... Regards, Rachel
