The Dogmother
well he hasn't spotted the silkie chick yet - altho he does keep asking about that 'ugly, hairy, grey thing' and wondering what sort of Aracauna it is... How very dare he! I'm not a fan of silkies, but even I wouldn't go that far
craftyhunnypie
Silkies are sweet! They look like mini emus. Mine look like peacocks at the moment - getting their hairdo's. What a shame about the NN. Hubby has actually said we can have a couple of NN's. Emma.x

laurmurf
Nelly it is and ED thinks she might actually be a Scots Dumpy! (the chick that is, not ED) we very nearly got rumbled this afternoon... aunty mostin and uncle shaunw were visiting the new chicks and OH said: "has that one got hairy legs? " (he hates silikies). YS said "I think it's a silkie (daggers from me) quickly retracted and said - oh no, it can't be." Mostin and i daren't look at each other, YD grinning at me from behind her father, shaunw admirably quiet....i quickly changed the subject.... I'm doomed, aren't i? Silkie now has a name too: Ushta (don't ask )
The Dogmother
You'll get found out you wicked woman! I'm afraid that I'm with your OH on silkies

Silkie now has a name too: Ushta (don't ask ) It was so funny, how he didn't pick up on such a moment of charged silence I'll never know . The moment passed though and I think little Ushta will remain secret for a while longer . I can happily report that all the chicks are just as cute as they claim to be in the photos, in fact more so . Babs is being a super mum, and they all look such a happy little troop. I am especially jealous of the baby aracaunas, little violet bundles of fluff that they are. It's a good job Laurie was keeping count or one might have snook out in my pocket . Mind you, thinking about it, babs might have had my hand off if I'd tried that .

Egluntyne
I'm afraid that I'm with your OH on silkies Same here. Will he notice the appearance of the Pink Eglu?
The Dogmother
I think that Mr Laurmurf may just be slightly more observant than your OH, Egluntine!
laurmurf
the man who raged at me for the additional cube that accidentally ended up in the garden is now the man who takes his breakfast out to sit at the table he's set up next to the babies. the man is in love. He gets to them first to give them their live mealworms and spent all day - literally ALL DAY - last Sunday sitting next to them and watching them run about, eat meal worms, and snuggle down with Babs. He also whispers baby-talk to the new girls. Crikey, would've thunk it? not only might he notice the pink eglu - he's making space for it and he can't wait for the next lot of babies to hatch in it! (as long as the chickies all go off to live with aunty mostin and aunty HEN) he still don't like silkies much though (and I'm still denying all knowledge )
The Dogmother
Bluimming heck! Is this your husband we're talking about Laurie? The one who said 'no more hens' when I met him????
laurmurf
oh my goodness, it gets worse.... I casually commented that I think Nessie and Nellie may turn out to be Hamish and Dougal after all and I got a tirade of 'wishing them ill' and the 'poor little chooks' and I'm just wanting them for the pot Yes, that's what you all know about me, isn't it? I'm not in it for the chook love, I'm in it for the pot. I'm clearly a very mean person. So Nessie and Nellie are NOT Hamish and Dougal and Fleur isn't looking very butch AT ALL, and they will continue not to be any of these things until the first time they crow
HENthusiastic
I've decided that ALL my chicks are girls.... except for Brabatt who OH wants to be a lil boy (one with a gentle nature and quiet voice) I couldn't name them though! Thats would make it just too hard if..............
Plum
Oh girls they are so cute and congratulations to you all and OH. mostin
Excuse me? Who? Me? I wasn't even here Must have been Mostin. Oh I see, I turn my back for a couple of days and I get all the blame . Its very easy for your family to be in denial Laurie, I heard of someone who wouldn't post pictures of her suspected cockerel on omlet for weeks because she couldn't face the truth, can't remember who that was now though . laurmurf
7 weeks since we posted this news - hellymisscloud, the lurker and I - and the update is that we have crowing! Our darlling little Lav Araucana, Basil, has either got a very sore throat or is practicing his crowing...over and over and over Mostin is not only the best chook integrator in the world but she manages to keep and bloomin' enormous Bill as quiet and meek as a lamb. I, however, am a failure as my cockerels just want to knock 7 bells out of each other when they're no bigger than bananas and then tell all the world about it!
