Drew and Alan
Ooh, exciting! What breed(s) are you getting? Have you got your names sorted out? well, we went to the poultry market again today and spoke to the guy selling them and the breeds he has for sale are Cendree (never heard of it!) Sussex Marin Warrens (never heard of this either and i think thats what it was! wrote it on our hands but have had showers since ) they range from white, brown, black and speckly! we the sussex's are the white ones but dont know which colours are the others! so next wednesday we are thinking about getting 2 of each! POLs at 8 euro 20 each. 6 more days to go!
Redwing
Warrens are the standard brown hen you see everywhere, my two are very cheeky! Marans can be speckled as can the sussex Light sussex are the white ones with the black and white neck feathers Many Marans lay a dark brown egg like the colour of chocolate! it depends on the type and strain though Marans and sussex are pure breeds so egg production may go down over winter however if you are getting six hens and there are only two of you I don't expect you will mind much! Daphne
Bargain price especially for the pure breeds! ENJOY Do take care tho that your birds are in tip top condition. I've seen french fowl for sale and some of it isn't very edifying. I'm don't mean to be a wet blanket but please, if you can, check them over. You don't want to hear any rattly breathing or see lice/mites in the plumage (partic to be seen under wings and under vent - tho you do have to peer a bit). My strongest advice is that if you encounter either (partic breathing) walk away - there are always always always more hens in the sea, so to speak.
