Flubenvet fan here too.

Although we only give it once every 3 months or so. It isn't a preventative though, it only gets rid of any nasties that are present at that time, so if we need to do it earlier for any reason then we do so.

i.e. Ginger started laying softees again recently, so wormed after only a couple of months as a precaution (as well as other Calcium solutions).

Should I worm my ex-batts? I've had them for 8 months and haven't wormed them, I thought ex-batts were vaccinated by the farmer for things such as worms? How can you tell if a chicken has worms? Gladys stopped laying 4 months ago but Betty and Rita lay everyday (and always with hard shells). Also, where do I get Flubenvet from - the vets? Sorry if I sound ignorant :?

I use Flubenvet too, every 3 months.

Worms can cause them to be unwell or reduce laying and you won't always see evidence in their poo either. Not sure what ex-batts are vaccinated with, but I guess it won't be worms. Free ranging hens will pick up worms from eating slugs, bugs etc in the soil.

Out of interest Omlet hens are vaccinated - see this link below:
