Well, I think (tries to recall O level latin taken 30-odd years ago) the word tabernus should be in the genetive case so you don't have the english "of", and puella needs to be plural, so I make it

puellae alo nemus taberni

but I am not sure of the correct word order and I wonder if cherry tree also needs to be genetive?

How come so many of you did Latin???

I did Latin "O" level - only language I did - nice and logical.

I went to a Convent Grammar School (not catholic but they had to take 11+ passers who were non-catholic if they had spare places as they got a grant)

I can even remember some of the Latin hymns and Christmas Carols we had to sing !!

No point forcing him.

No but could you persuade him - I found it taugh me more ENGLISH grammar than English Language "O" level did - also it teaches structure, origins of words etc.

It IS surprisingly useful

Then become a scientist and learnt the Greek alphabet - just through normal scientific usage - this is very useful on Greek holidays, simply becuause it enables me (often) to pronouce the words - many of which can then be guessed eg. a chemist is a Pharmacy - if you can read the letters, you get something like Pharmakia - and its all 'clear'

We had a scary Latin teacher at school (tiny and ancient but still scary  ). She insisted everyone did O grade Latin and those who were half decent all went on to do Higher as well. I'm certain it helped me with learning languages and possibly with my spelling and grammar too.

*checks it all makes sense and is spelt correctly :anxious: *

So did I Hazel! Remember Adeste Fidelis? I used to love Latin mass too!

Bit of dog latin a friend at school told us all:

"Caesar adsum iam forte, Brutus aderat. Caesar sic in omnibus, Brutus in is at" :vom::D:D

Not sure if I should post this here (I may have to moderate myself  ) but when we were translating the Aeneid (happy memories) the only line that stuck in my mind (to this day!) was translated as "Aeneus rose up and brandished his huge tree like weapon".

Oh, how we laughed :lol: .

ANH you naughty Moderator :lol::wink:

I forgot to write it down but:

'pulli' is Chicken and

'casa' is cottage
