Ill have one if I was closer! Thanks Tom. If you're serious, that's actually not going to be a problem. My brother and his family live in Somerset (Weston-Super-Mare), so I'm down that way a lot. I also travel to the South West of England quite a bit with my work. Maybe, you have 3 boys and 4 girls (partidges) as the girls are a lot lighter than the boys ...Let me know if my theory works! Certainly will!I would do all 8 at the same time and just take an egg add a chick etc. That was our original thought, but Di (our Broody) has been very aggressive while on the eggs, and I don't want to risk 8 dead chicks in the morning. She was always bottom of the pile and very timid before going broody, it will be interesting to see what happens when she finally gets back with the other two girls. I would love 1 of your cockerels, thats as long as I still have space for one! I have always had partridge cockerels and love them. I miss Floyd and Jim Are you eventually going to mix the pekins or keep them seperate in the WIR with a new eglu they could hold easily 5-6 pekins. You never know, you might get a quiet cockerel. I've already enquired if I can just purchase the Eglu without the run, shade, feeders, etc etc, and you can - just what I need! I shall pick it up on my way past in a couple of weeks time (I work 'up north' quite a bit as well as down in your part of the country!). They said two weeks when I called last week, which should be OK. In the mean time, I hope the big broody box will work out, but if not I'll give you a shout. Four of the eight chicks are now under Mum. She had a bit of a go at my hand a couple of times, but didn't seem to mind the chicks at all and made no attempt to harm them once I'd got them under her. atsw Posted June 28, 2009 Share Posted June 28, 2009 I think it's looking good . The four we kept back in the brooder all survived the night and are nice and lively, eating, drinking and tweeting. I was up at the WIR around 6:45am to check on the other four who we put under Di late last night. I've not seen any of them yet, but I can hear tweeting! Di has this slightly confused look on her face this morning, and keeps shuffling around and fiddling about underneath herself, presumably because the chicks are tickling her as they move about! We left four eggs under her, and she is making sure they continue to be covered and in the right place, which is good, as that will help with tonight's second stage introductions. I shall be keeping a very close eye this morning, and will be happy once I've seen little faces poking out from under her. Camera is at the ready! Happy to report s/he is fine, a head and body poked out from under Mum for a brief moment.
