When i googled chicken swollen eye, lost come up with infectious disease, thinking of waiting to the morning to see if her eye has gone down, dunno what else to do??? Egluntyne
I would wait now till she has gone to roost, and then haul her out and examine it carefully, and bathe it with a tepid weak saline solution or cold tea. She may have scratched it or got a small foreign body in it. If there is gunky pus in it, it might be worth a trip to the vet.

sjp
my vet prescrbed Fucithalmic drops for one of mine that had a runny eye after she got abit of feather in it. I had to sign a letter for it as its not licensed for poultry though bit of a pain to apply on your own but work a treat hope this might be of help
Bunnyish
just got back from the vets, he said she in a very bad way, just take everyday as it comes. given me antibiotic i have to syringe into her mouth. going back tues, if not cleared and and is a virus i could be at risk of having all 5 of my girls put to sleep... i prey that its just a bacterial infection on the lungs and chest etc and not something more serious! Faye&Ant
We had the same experience last year with one of our pekins, we took her to the vet and they did all kinds of tests putting green dye in but couldnt confirm what was wrong. They thought it might have been a torn tear duct and might stay swollen and to keep a watch over and make sure she eats and drinks and seems happy etc. The eye stayed like it for months without bothering her (we nicknamed her bruiser) and then suddenly one day it disappeared without any bother to her at all. I would get her checked out by a vet if it looks bad so as not to make sure she doesnt get an infection etc. So far this week we have had two torn nails a little blood and loads of TLC, they are quite hardy for little girls and a lot tougher than I give them credit for. Who would have thought they could cause so much worry!! I really hope shes ok

chelsea
Hope she pulls through and your other girls are ok. You did the right thing going to the vets so promptly. I would always recommend any eye problems to be seen by a vet after our Willow lost the sight in her left eye after an infection that was mis-diagnosed and treated by a inexperienced vet.
