Old Speckled Hen
OH was bitten once while we were walking - as usual he is a few paces in front That's usually the best place to walk. I was once attacked by hornets on a walking trip. I was lagging behind and the rest of the group had disturbed their territory sufficiently to anger them so they attacked the next in line. ME. I had eight bites on my head and it hurt so much I spent a goodly time crying When I was hiking in Nepal we used to fight each other to get behind our guide. Leeches were a problem and the first few people in line served merely to wake them up and you got hopped on if you were at the end.
chocchick
I went for a riding lesson and my poor horse was particularly bothered and all I call hear was swish swish swish from his tail and occasional head shakes. We released them into the indoor school before they went into the field and he went for the biggest roll with all 4 feet in the air.

Space Chick
I got bitten by one as a teenager (many many moons ago ) My leg became very swollen and hard and infected. They tried topical antibiotics on the "epicentre" but that didn't work, then they tried oral antibiotics. After a few weeks of suffering, itching and pain, my GP had to lance it and drain out the infection It tooks months for it to fully heal I'm petrified of the things now
clueless chick
Tried to get an appointment at the docs but full for the day on Thurs receptionist suggested going to the chemist. They suggested hydrocortisone cream and antihist tabs which I have been taking. Have felt really ill and have been driven to distraction with the pain but didnt know whether to take pain killers or not with the antihist tabs so I have put up with it and going to bed exhausted. Husband out on Thurs and put the chooks away early, which they didnt like and called for half hour so had to get up again but quite an effort cos once I had raised the ankle I couldnt stand the pain of putting it back on the floor. They were quiet as soon as they saw me but we had words and I went back to bed. unable to go to work but luckily work for hubby. Today still swollen so no shoes other than flip flops but the pain has gone Thsnks for all the replies, a strong repellent needed as hubby says there are loads where we grow the crops. he was told that there could be a link with sceptic tanks, which we have and so do all our neighbours ???? Reading all the replies have cheered me up as been low for days thanks again
