motherhen
There have been several people mentioning where they get really good organic/free range meat so I thought it would be useful to have a list as a sticky that people could refer to. You could also add organic veggies and other 'green' products, eg supplier of essential oils. Please give as much info as poss on delivery areas, location of farm/shop/farmers' market, and opening hours. It would be useful I think if people could read your views on quality, delivery etc - sort of DIY Which report. I'll leave it as individual postings, but ask if you can try really hard not to go off topic (I can say that because I do sometimes ) so that people can easily scan through all the postings. motherhen
SHEEPDROVE ORGANIC FARM Chicken, Turkey, Lamb, Mutton, Beef, Pork Bristol - shop and mail order Very pleased with my order - came on day expected, ordering simple, meat all nice and cold when it arrived. Whole chicken when roast was superb - great taste and texture. Sausages and burgers also good although I would sprinkle seasoning on the burgers while cooking next time. http://www.sheepdrove.com/default.asp

motherhen
RIVER COTTAGE PIG IN A BOX Bacon, sausages, gammon, brawn, pate etc There is virtually a waiting list for these but we really enjoyed ours. The link below takes you straight to the info and ordering section. The quality was just amazing and you can tell Hugh FW is a cook because the sausages and other prepared products were wonderful. http://www.rivercottage.net/rcv2/food/meat_box.jsp?shop=food&food=meat_box Downside - it isn't cheap, although I considered it good value for what it was in quality, and if you have hungry teenagers it can all disappear very quickly. It is a treat I will definitely have again. You do need to order well in advance - possibly several weeks - so be warned. I was able to specify a time slot for delivery and it came right on time. The individual items were packaged very nicely. I thought as I unpacked, what a lovely wedding present (post honeymoon) it would make for a couple. The products were cold enough when they arrived, with just the special insulation, but I'm thinking of suggesting to RC that they consider disposable ice packs like Sheepdrove used. The Sheepdrove contents were noticably colder.

KateB
East Herts and Essex.... Organic fruit and veg boxes www.fairorganics.co.uk Very good produce, a lot of it from Ashlyns farm shop. Delivered and reasonably priced. I'll second the recommendation for Sheepdrove - excellent meat and good value for money.
Anna 1
Ok - a few recommendations here (sorry for the long list) 1) I use Abel and Cole for my organic delivery. We don't seem to have a good local box scheme so I've found this to be a good alternative. They deliver direct to the door and can deliver almost anywhere in the country I think - check the website www.abel-cole.co.uk The advantage for me as a working mum is that they deliver direct to the door, I can customise preferences, add basic grocery and cleaning items, and joy-of-joys purchase fresh, MSC-approved fish from Cornwall. The range and quality of the products are really good, and you can even specify 'dislikes' (in my case melons which I am violently allergic to) and they will replace it with something else. I order a 'family' box every fortnight for £20 which includes 9 types of vegetables and 4 types of fruit. With supplements from my (very small) garden this keeps the three of us going easily for the fortnight. 2) Child/baby products (nappies, clothing, toys etc) I have always ordered from Green Baby - www.greenbaby.co.uk A good range of products - the cotton clothing is generously-sized and very hard-wearing. Oliver wore his button-through GreenBaby 3-6 month vests long after he turned 1, and they seemed to get softer the more I washed them! Delivery takes a couple of days but is always well-packaged. 3) Natural Collection - www.naturalcollection.com A really wide variety of organic and fairly-traded items from clothes, to gardenware, to cosmetics, to household cleaners and much more. Good for gifts at Xmas and birthdays too. I've used them for years. Again delivery can sometimes be up to a week, but always well-packaged and meeting expectations. I order their Bambule hygiene spray on a regular basis and the citrus-based Fresh and Clean cleaner, which is just that! 4) Sheepdrove Organic Farm - just to endorse what others have said. Really nice quality meat and arrives nicely cold and well-packaged, when it says it will. 5) Also try Green Choices - www.greenchoices.org which is essentially a guide to 'greener living' - no products for sale, just advice about where to go for things. 6) Lastly - try www.little-earth.co.uk A directory of all sorts of ecological and environmentally aware activities. We're planning a holiday through the 'holidays' section - a horse-drawn caravan in Ireland for a week! Not till next year, but will update you on how it goes! kazaddress
The www.theorganicfarmersmarket.co.uk Delivery Has arrived. They deliver all over the UK, and their produce includes fruit, veg, fish, meat, gluten free foods, pies, cakes, pet food, salads, hummus, cooking sauces, drinks, vegetarian foods, fresh herbs etc I’m not quite sure if I’m happy thvalue for money or not. The produce in the fruit and veg box looks large, clean and healthy.. but its does not feel like very much (for the £2 extra more then www.riverford.co.uk), This is what I got for my £14.50 3 large onions, 3 leaks, 1 bag potatoes, 1 suede, 1 bag carrots, 1 bag kale, 1 bag mixed salad leaves, 1 lemon, 3 bananas, 2 oranges, 2 apples. Hmm. Well the honey smoked bacon looks lovely as does the 2 pies (1 gluten free and 1 normal), The hummus and pesto is in jars which is Disappointing, as i was hoping it would be fresh not long life! They delivered the wrong pesto (I requested coriander and walnut). They also delivered the wrong milk too. 3 litres of semi-skimmed rather then skimmed (which wont be much use to me on my weigh"Ooops, word censored!"chers no count diet). When i ordered the food in the first place the credit card page crashed 3 times... after the third day of trying i ended up phoning them up, so that they processed the order (which was a bit of a palava) I also bought a gluten free cake, a flap jack and a bottle of strawberry lemonade as a treat for my birthday. Total cost for this weeks shop was £35.01 (not bad for the 2 of us!) Next week it’s the http://www.organically-speaking.com delivery. I will let you know how it goes! Cate in NZ
Up until very recently I've been buying most of my fruit & veg from a local organic farm in Gravesend, who's produce is excellent., and I'd recommentdthem whole-heartedly to anyone in the area. Unfortunately though I live out of their delivery area, so have been driving out there every thursday to collect my box. Since the children went back to school they've both acquired after school activities on a thursday, so with great reluctance I've been forced to cancel my veg box from them. Imagine my delight then to find that my milkman has started delivering organic fruit & veg, along with my milk It does come from Somerset, so not as local as I'd like, but it's delivered to me on an environmentally friendly electric milk float by my very friendly milkman. My first box has just been delivered and so far I'm impressed. If anyone gets milk delivered by a Dairy Crest milkman it might be worth checking this out http://www.milkdeliveries.co.uk/doorstep/swaddles.htm

snowcloud
... if you live near Christchurch in Dorset, I'd recommend this farm shop ... http://www.owlsbarn.com/index.html ... which is in Sopley, off the road between Christchurch and Ringwood. They have the most amazing sausages and there is even a chicken coup in the car park to keep the kids happy while you buy lots of good meat and veg. Most of it is organic too, and they do brilliant venison, being so close to the New Forest. Highly recommended.
