teri Posted July 14, 2009 Share Posted July 14, 2009 i went out at silly o'clock this morning to put the recycling out for collection and when i went to move the box it shrieked!!! on closer inspection i found this the poor thing was very cold and very scared so i've taken it in. i have been feeding it every hour or so on baby food which it seems to love it is a lot stronger than this morning but is still not standing on its legs? i don't really hold much hope for it but i couldn't leave it to the mercy of the neighbours cats. its now in a box in the living room watching only fools and horses with the hubby! he's quite a softie and has been sat cuddling it i'll let you know what happens, if it survives the night i might take it to a local rescue centre. Griffin Posted July 14, 2009 Share Posted July 14, 2009 Awww best of luck. I rescued one on Sunday night. It was just before midnight when I heard it making a noise outside on my driveway. I looked out the window and saw it hopping off across the road closely followed by three of my cats I dashed down and outside and managed to catch it before they did. I brought it inside and managed to get it to drink some water. Knowing it'd be shocked I left it on a blanket in a cardboard box and went to bed. Poor thing had died by the morning exactly where I'd left it. It was about the same age as yours too. What I don't understand is why it was out at that time of night? stoice Posted July 15, 2009 Share Posted July 15, 2009 Ah bless, I hope it's going to be ok. Have you had any luck at a rescue centre? I was shocked at how few places there are that can take on any of our injured or sick wildlife. The RSPCA weren't much help when i called with a sick hedgehog last year. We eventually found a place run by a lady and volunteers several miles from us. She was ill with cancer but still gave everything she had to her wildlife friends. Gave her the hedgehog and £20 for the cause. Felt so bad adding to her numbers. One tip she gave me for keeping little critters warm was to fill a rubber glove with hot water from the tap and tie it off. Wrapped in a towel or tissue it acts like a small hot water bottle. We've had several birds 'brain' themselves on my mums patio doors. Some unfortunately don't make it but some we managed to provide a safe warm box over night for them to 'come to' and with some meal worms to munch on they were fighting fit by the morning.
