The Dogmother
Green Campaigner Julia Stephenson has some ex-batts living in her rooftop garden in London... no Eglu though True to her word, or playing at being green?......
Olly
Well, the turf isn't going to last long! A two-foot run ... hmm, hard to judge from the photos, but I hope they have enough room. I'd be worried about them flying off the edge of the roof. Pity she didn't get an Eglu, it would be so much easier on a rooftop! If you click through to the full Evening Standard article it tells you a lot more about her, she's got a woodburning stove and solar panels ... I'm still not totally convinced though. Redwing
Those gleaming solar panels, imaculate decking and intact plants would indicate there isnt much free ranging going on Thats not a very big run and the lady seems clueless as to chicken care but its a novel idea and three less chickens in pies so it can't be all bad
The Dogmother
And she couldn't even get the name of BHWT right
chocchick
I can only think about their happy little digging claws on those shiny solar panels and the immortal phrase "However the turf has only been down 2 days so I’m not quite sure how long-lasting it will be." Her heart seems to be in the right place and is thinking about how best to clean them, albeit through trial and error and advice from a cleaner involved in cock fighting She does seem to at least care and want to help the chickens. She did ask the BHWT about the roof.
The Dogmother
I guess it's all good publicity for keeping hens out of cages, but I can't help wonder how long it'll last. I do hope that I'm wrong.
Clash City Rocker
Good on her, I wish I could get our cleaner to clean my chickens out. The comments on the london standard page are quite funny "I recently completed this book. Not at all what I expected. In agreement, Miss Stephenson and her book appear lite on intellect. But Stephenson has created an updated ABFAB character; think 'Patsy goes radically green'. She is forever having to out do herself and her neighbours, which include David Cameron; all for the sake of reducing her carbon footprint. Her persecuted builder boyfriend is the perfect side kick. Clever twists throughout and wonderfully informative. I would love to see this as a TV series". if you've got it, flaunt it. As for chickens stratching around on solar panels, can it be any different to chickens kept in eglu's and cube's on permenant paving slabs or concrete flooring, they'll never dust bath on either. WarrensWorld
Not to sure really, looks a little too pristine don't you think. Don't think the plastic coating will last too long on the solar panels either. In the space of 2 1/2 hours, our 4 blitzed the old compost heap, took out 6 Cos lettuce plants, 4 Red/Green Salad leaves. Then attacked the Coriander, Purple Basil and Curly Parsley, luckily herbs are not to their liking. They then went on to terrorise poor Molly, chased the Pied Wagtail, and the Robin. They also left enough poo to do justice to a Rhino, with rampant diarrhoea.....
