Seagazer
Just thought I'd ask if anybody has used these or heard of them. YS came home with a leaflet. They are small plastic tags that have the child's name on them and you have a little machine that punches them onto the clothes. No idea how to do a link but website is www.attachatag.com. I think its great not to have to sew anything on, we've tried the ironing ones but they become unstuck . I'm just worried that the tag might be uncomfortable. Any ideas? Will have lots and lots of uniform to do for September.
Cooks
mine are really fussy about labels and anything in their clothes so wouldnt like these, I have to sew the labels in the seam along the body as if it's in the neck they wont wear them
Falkor
Looks like a good idea, mucho time saving, but as you say may be uncomfortable on the back of your neck. Could put them on the tag on the side seam of clothes as cookie does
xScrunchee
We have a tag problem in this house too Not that I can blame them to be honest-I cannot stand itchy tags or scratchy bits in my clothes neither. Pleased I don't have all the uniform hassle
Egluntyne
It was Cash's Name Tapes when my children were at school.

chickencam
I just use a laundry marker on the labels of the clothes. I gave up on the other sorts after getting fed up of them peeling or coming unstitched
Seagazer
I still have some sew in ones and the really scratchy iron in ones. I think if I did go for these attach a tags then I would have to put it in a side seam. I really like the idea, especially with two different sets of pe kit and the uniform, it would be so much quicker. I shall probably end up spending the summer sewing instead We have a really long surname as well so whenever I've tried writing on the normal label it always ends up a mess. YS has a very common (unfortunately ) first name so couldn't even just put that on.
Happy-Mama
I had a look at the sight and they look like a great idea to me (though I have no experience of sewing names in uniforms etc so no idea on how kids feel about them being comfy etc) though as they can go on the washing instructions tag on the seam of the clothing maybe they wouldn't be noticed, though I am not sure if that would work for shirts/blouses where it would be next to the skin (sorry I'm not much help) Though if you do go for them I would be interested in hearing your views on them. Seagazer
Well I ordered the Attach a Tag and it came today. We've just done one of YS's school shirts and I asked him to wear it for a while before I get carried away and tag all his clothes. Typically he only wore it for about 5 minutes but said it was ok. I'm not totally sure how long the applicator will last as it is quite flimsy looking. His name tags look great though. Here is a photo of YS in his new school uniform that we bought today as a follow on from Maria Neal's thread. I think he looks very handsome but much too young to be going to 'big' school reminder to self: must let go
Cinnamon
I just used a laundry Sharpie on the labels - much easier
Yorkshire Pudding
I have tried a few different methods and I'm afraid my first thought was that it would be very easy to remove the tag by just cutting off the garment label, tag and all. Sadly some people would do this. We had a few sweatshirts 'vanish' when my two were younger, during changing for PE etc. They came home in sweatshirts that weren't theirs, which I washed and returned. Sadly the new ones they had lost, which I had labelled on the washing label, never came back despite having their names in. The new owners simply removed the tags and kept them (I know this as the teacher and TA both said as much, certain children having mysteriously acquired new sweatshirts that very day, none of which had wash labels in them. ). Now I always put name labels in the back of the neck where they are very visible, and on the side/underarm seam as 'backup'. I do use the iron-on ones and replace them when they get loose. Neither of my two lads moans about them luckily. On coats and waterproof jackets I can't iron so use a permanent marker but on the garment itself not the label, in a non-conspicuous area. Seagazer
Yes we've had numerous items go missing at school even with name tags on. YS came home with what were so obviously not his trousers after swimming one day he almost had to roll them up. He told the boy who was about a foot taller than him that they had the trousers mixed up but the bigger boy wouldn't have it - hope he enjoyed wearing really small trousers! Eventually managed to get hold of the mum and exchange them.
Cinnamon
At my girls secondary school we have to embroider the name on to PE kit, but I have STILL had things go missing. I suspect they have been unpicked....Cleo has said that a few girls have hastily Sharpied on names on their PE shirts
Egluntyne
Worth sewing an extra name tag on expensive items. I did this when my daughter was at school, at a more experienced mother's suggestion. My daughter's coat went missing, and to cut a long story short, it turned up on some-one elses back. It was obviously hers as I had sewn a button on with red cotton. The mother had cut my daughters name tag off, and replaced it with her childs! (They were about 7 at the time, so it won't have been the child ). I mentioned my suspicions to the teacher, who checked under the pocket flap....and lo and behold....there was the evidence. I left it to the school to deal with the matter....but I took the coat back.

clootie
I'm surprised the culprit could look Egluntine in the face after that. Unbelievable.
Egluntyne
They left. Not because of this I hasten to add. Job change and they moved on. Even better....the child's father had been to university with Him Indoors! You couldn't make it up!
