Recommended Posts

Has anyone tried both of these?

We have a Wii & I fancy getting something fun for the girls to use over the holidays, something that will occupy them & keep them active (well, more active that laying in the beds anyhow  )

But I am cunfused that there are 2 active games now & need some advice as to which to get, please :D

We have the Wii fit and its great for me as an excercise program as I get bored with the gym very easily. This is fun and you actually feel it working so not a complete waste of time. The yoga is brill and the balance games are great fun, you also unlock new harder levels and games as you along. The muscle workouts I found quite tough and the running one left me red and out of breath but then I am totally unfit. Im sure your girls will breeze through it :D

The other good thing is the weight and BMI tracker so you can set yourself targets etc, although the trainer does get a bit sarky if you miss a few days or dont put enough effort in :?

Would be interesting to hear from anyone with the Wii Active as I would also like to try that out

We have both - the Wii Fit I found is more game based than the Wii Active. That feels like hard work, you start by doing a 30 day programme and you do exercises for 3 days and have a day off, and it follows that kind of routine. More exercises or extended repititions are added on each day. There are also 3 levels, low, medium or high intensity. I started on the low  I found the Wii Fit easier than the Wii Active. :D

We have the wii active, I restarted this morning after a couple of weeks break and I had to give up before the end as I felt so shattered (I was on medium level) It really does make you out of puff and sweaty. You do things like lunges, squats, inline skating, shoulder thingys with a resistance band, volleyball etc. My favorite is the boxing!

Having neither, but researching both and knowing people with them this is what I understand. The Wii fit is fun and gentle exercise, but a friend alternated Wii fit days with days actually out running as felt it didn't get you as fit just using Wii fit. The Wii active is more like a personal trainer and is less game and more a workout.

Ironically if you just want to be 'a bit more active' then it is the Wii fit you need. If you want to get a lot fitter then you need the Wii active.

Agree with everyone

The Wii Fit is gentle fun for all the family and concentrates mainly on balance and co-ordination rather than fitness, the active is an intense work out, and great if you have a phobia of gyms and dont have the room or spare cash for gym equipment.

I brought about a week ago the wii sports 2 (beach resort) this is really good as it has the wii motion addition to the remote, I dont think this would get you fit however, in my opinion the whole game demonstrates to you how good the wii motion is to get you to buy other games that support the wii motion.

Those without a wii fit board and are thinking of getting one I would advise you to get it sooner rather than later as the wii fit 2 (using the same board) is going to be released in the next couple of months and I have a feeling the wii fit boards will sell out again!

Clear as mud!
