I think you get treated as an adult a lot more at Uni - plus you have to take responsibility for attending lectures. If you don't attend, it's your loss. He will learn to mature & maybe appreciate a bit of independence too hopefully. Very best of luck to him, I'm sure he will love it & surprise you eventually with his keeness to study! Think I'm in the same situation - I got an unconditional offer for where I wanted to go so didn't bother working for A-levels 'cos I wasn't motivated at all.
