Hello everyone, I've just joined and I am looking forward to getting my first chickens in the next few weeks! :D I have ordered a wooden coop/run combo which I hope to put up at the weekend. My question is---does it matter if it is on a slope? My whole garden is sloping and it would be a real hassle to have to level an area to site it on. If it is OK on a slope, would it be better to have the coop facing downhill or uphill? or wouldn't it matter?

Thanks for any advice you can give!

my garden slopes. i have put my coop at the top and build a walkin run going down away from it. (does that make sense?) this helps with the drainage. if the slope is really steep could you flatten out a small bit to stand the coop on so your girls dont fall out of bed  i have had to do this. i just cut into the slope and lined it with garden slabs before putting my coop in.

Hi Shoura,

From newbie experience I think it can matter in terms of makng the run secure as possible. It depends if the slope is an even slope.

I have a wooden house and run and had to move it arounds loads until I found the best position to ensure there were no significant gaps between the ground and the run. In the end I tacked chicken wire all round the run, with about 10cm loose like a skirt and then hammered that into the ground with tent pegs. The grass grows through the wire so is soon out of sight. The only downside of that is if you want to move the house and run around the garden to rotate the grass, so to speak.

thanks for all your suggestions---hopefully the run arrives today or tomorrow so I will play around with it over the weekend and see where would be the best place for it....think I will be putting slabs in the run but might give them the opportunity tio have fun destroying the grass first! Won't be moving it around, garden isn't big enough.
