maheegan
i would like to introduce a miss pepperpot to my community of 2 gingernut rangers. is this a risk and where can i get one from around berkshire
Martin B
It's not really a risk. A miss pepperpot is the name given to the specific hybrid from Omlet. I don't know what the real hybrid name is though.
Mrs Frugal
E-mail Barbara@omlet.co.uk as she might know of some breeders in your area where you can get a Miss Pepperpot type hen from. They go under several different names with the various breeders but are basically the same hen.
maheegan
thanks very much i was worried that the others might pick on the newcomer
Mrs Frugal
They probably will as the pecking order will be disrupted but they will get over it in a week or so. It's often easier to introduce two rather than one if you have the room.
Martin B
Which is good news!
Mrs Frugal
Certainly is Martin ! I tried introducing one on her own to two hens and it took a few weeks to get them to be nice to her. She still gets pecked if she puts a foot out of line though, bless her. If I could do it again, I'd introduce two rather than one alone! Aunty e
I got home about fifteen minutes ago and went to shut the eglu door. And there was Hazel. Asleep outside the eglu looking very pathetic. They used to do that to Beryl too, and she would make these pitiful noises until I went to put her in with them. Get two, it's easier. ubereglu
Their hybrid name is Bovans Nera. But you can get Black Rocks which are more or less the same!
Aunty e
My Black Rock is an amazing bird, never misses a day laying, placid and very friendly. She is top chicken too. I can heartily recommend them.
Egluntyne
I have 3 Pepperpots. Lovely and gentle and if were being honest...a bit dim. They lay every day and are friendly and inquisitive. I love 'em to bits.
Elaine C
Lovely and gentle and if were being honest...a bit dim. Isn't that the truth My pepperpot runs up and down the run vhen the run door is open, trying to figure out how her mate the gingernut has got out into the big wide world! AnnieP
Yep! Mine's far more cerebrally challenged than my Gingernut and Amberstar too! I do love her though!
ubereglu
Mine's not like that!!! Henrietta follows you up and down the path but doesn't like to be picked up. Sometimes she lays really funny eggs!!! Not at the minute though-she's in a I'm too posh and good-looking to lay!!!
