Leicester Skyride

Recommended Posts

Tomorrow OH, DD and I will be cycling 8 km around part of Leicester along with about 12,000 other people for the Skyride. The roads for the route will be closed and there's going to be tons of entertainment and even Gethin form Blue Peter. I'm really hoping i manage it, i've only learnt to ride this summer and i've certainly not cycled 8 km before. Still, it's a pretty flat route and will be fairly slow so i'm not too worried. DD and I are going to dress colourfully so as to make an impression  OH will dress normally, there's a surprise

Wish me luck, i'll post some photos over the next couple of days. If i'm not too knackered and need 3 days sleep to recover :oops:

I thought this was going to be something about a new fun thing and was wondering why on earth Leicester??? I was thinking it would be like the New York Skyride which is at the Empire State building and much better than going to the top! http://www.skyride.com/

Enjoy your bike ride!

Just came on the computer to check out the details for the skyride (via Omlet!) and saw this. We're planning to go along later today - maybe see you there!

Because Leicester is a fun, happening place?! The National Space Centre is here you know, and is home to a market stall run by Gary Lineker's relatives - does New York have either of those? I think not!!!!

Hello Helly! Are you home yet? We had an enjoyable time and got home just in time to catch only a few mins of the rain. Looking forward to seeing your photos. We didn't take our camera, but will be looking at the website tomorrow.

I'm very impressed that you only recently learned to ride - well done!:clap:

Hi everyone, got back just after 4pm. We went into Leicester afterward to see Titan the robot.

We had a great day, easily cycled around the course and DD and I even made it up the only hill without getting off. I know that sounds ridiculous but we've never managed to get up a hill so we were impressed. The entertainment was good too. We saw some BMX tricks and had our Skyride bibs signed by Gethin Jones and a Stormtrooper who was up at the Space Centre. We got to "pimp" our bikes with some free stickers and reflective dots. My bike looks like something from tellytubbies!

We also all had a go on some fun bikes. I rode a trike (i used to own one) and a recumbent which was gorgeous. I want one now!! DD rode a chopper and a Mini Penny Farthing. I was so impressed, she didn't even look like falling off. OH went on a bike with wonky wheels, a bike that was hinged in the middle and one that turned the wrong way. Yes, he looked like a clown

All in all, a great day, entirely free and we all had such a great time. Everyone was lovely and DD was especially chuffed to get Gethin's autograph and a photo with him.

oooh, snowy, you have done 8888 posts :D

oh, sorry, back on topic

my friend at school took her 7 year old daughter to the local bike shop to find out why she wasnt learning to ride a bike properly and it turns out that poor little tot was trying to ride a bike with little wheels (you know the typical childs bike type) anyway, when she get her a big girls bike (with sensible wheels), she was away with the cycling with no problems at all :clap:

We're lucky, OH is a bit of a cycling nut so he knew exactly what to look for in a kids bike. Mini welly learnt pretty quickly actually. We had her scoot up and down the garden without pedals until she got her balance, then she cycled around on the grass for a while. Teaching her how to brake took longer

I'm still a bit wobbly on my bike, especailly if someone breaks my concentration. But i have proprioception issues so i knew riding a bike was always going to be challenging. In fact, i never thought i would manage it. Shows how much i know.
