Chickens jump for joy!!!!!!!!

Recommended Posts

My two 11 week old cochins have delighted me every day of the 10 days I have had them :D I have been letting them free-range round the garden for the last few days and they have been loving it! When they come out in the morning they fly and jump around just for the joy of being free. I do hope I don't ever have to stop them free-ranging - they are sooooo happy  I didn't know chickens were capable of showing such emotion :D

Great isn't it? :D

But not at 6am when they are woken up by a load of honking geese flying over who set the magpies off. My 3 bokked for England and I had to pad out in my dressing gown to calm them down. :x

I remember now that at this time of year I will get the geese flying over for a few weeks.

I would warn you though that letting out the chickens in the morning is likely to negatively impact on their laying. We used to let ours free range before we went to work, but they started to lay less and less as they filled up on grass and flowers intead of alyers' pellets. They now don't get let out until 2pm, by which point they're full!

Aww :( Mind you - since they are cochins I don't think we were ever in for an overwhelming egg supply  They have food and water in their coop. I wonder what time they start eating in the morning while they wait for me to let them out? I think a fair bit of light gets into their Chicube through the walls and ventilation holes. I suppose it would be easy to find out if I could be bothered getting up at various times and weighing how much they have left in the way of pellets. I think they've eaten quite a lot of pellets today because the weather has been BAD and they have made regular dashes into their coop for shelter from the sudden downpurs of rain.
