making pasta

Recommended Posts

I bought OH a pasta maker for Christmas (he does enjoy cooking :D ). Just need to try it out now - glad it can be done with just flour and water as we only have 1 egg left and no more in sight :(:( What proportions do you need if you are doing just pasta flour and water then?

Erm...he doesn't say! Maybe flour and water pasta is harder to make at home! :roll:

So anyone ready to give feedback yet?? :lol:

My attempt was part success , part disaster!

Easy enough to make and to use the pasta machine, and the pasta did taste nice using just normal flour and eggs.

But as I cut mine, I laid it onto a tea towel. And wherever it touched another piece, it stuck together again! So I ended up with pasta lumps rather than tagliatelle! :(

Very tasty though, and I'm sure the chooks will love the leftovers tomorrow! :roll:

You need a broom handle Snowy - balance it across something and drape each handful of pasta over it as you remove it from the machine.

Joe's brother bought us a pasta maker for Christmas as he got one and it's great!

The little clamp to secure it to the worktop was cross threaded and I couldn't work it free so I took it back to John Lewis to swop it today.

Got the new one home and the free spinning handle end thingy is not attached to the handle and is broken so I have to go back again tomorrow to swop this one over!!

I still haven't been able to make my own pasta yet and it's been over a week!!

:cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:

Oh dear! That's like giving a child a toy, then taking it away :shock:

We always used to drape the pasta over a piece of dowel that we kept in the kitchen for that purpose, it worked fine and it dried quickly hanging in the air.

I'd love a pasta machine, but don't really have the space in my kitchen to keep it :roll: I think I'll stick to the Seeds of Change organic pasta - that's yummy :D

Yes I think I'll have to try the broom stick/dowelling next time. Sounds like lasagne sheets would be easier though. Good news is that OH (the one who doesn't like pasta :roll: ) does like it home made (providing it doesn't come out in lumps :shock: ), so I must give it another go! :D

We did make pasta for New Year - used the recipe in OH's pasta maker book which used pasta flour, eggs, olive oil and a pinch of salt. First lot was suposed to be thrown according to the book (something to do with it being a new machine) so I cooked that for the girls (no point in wasting it!!) :wink: Then we made taglietelle - and dried it on a line of string stretched across the kitchen. It was pretty good though It didnt cut too well , next time I think I will try it one stage thicker. Other than that I would definitely use it again so gets the thumbs up from me :lol:
