Christmas Hampers Thread 2009

Recommended Posts

Now is the time to be making lovely edible goodies for Christmas hampers, so perfect place to share ideas, and recipes if needed.

So far I have made:

Barbecue Chutney

Curried veg Chutney

Strawberry Jam

Raspberry Jam

Plum Jam

Plum Chutney

Courgette Chutney

Orange Marmalade

I will be making:

Onion Marmalade

Bramble Jelly

Walnut Liqueur (well this is on the go as we speak)

Nearer the time, I hope to make sweets and chocolates that will last for a few weeks, possibly some Christmas Cakes too, but again need something that will last.

I would like other liqueur recipes, and any ideas for my pears as they should be ready from my tree soon.

Could i have your Barbecue Chutney recipe please? I'm trying an experiment with plums at the moment, trying to make them into a liqueur. I have pricked the plums all over with a fork, layerd them in kilner jars with sugar and then poured dark rum over.

Pear wise i have to make this chutney every year as everyone wants it!!

I am surrounded by Philistines :wall::wall::wall::wall::wall:

I did home made hampers last year and the feedback (behind my back  ) is that it was a waste of time. All hubby's relatives prefer supermarket E intensified rubbish :!:

One phoned OH to see if my Rowan Jelly was safe :shock:

My mum, my daughter and a couple of friends loved theirs so I am making ONLY four this year but I will put all my energy into making them bumper ones :D:D

Everybody else can have a book from Amazon or maybe HFW's preserves one :D and a jar of Tesco mint sauce

I want to make up some vodkas..toffee & maybe some raspberry too. There will be plenty of jams & chutneys on the go when I get back from my hols. I will also be making the easy peasy Xmas cakes again - more of them this year. I made 2 last year & got requests for them after people had some of ours & my mums. I will be making some fudge & truffles, some peanut brittle & some mulled wine spice sachets. Hubby is hoping to make some wine stuff from cheap Lidl grape juice, raisins etc.

I want to make some nice home sewn bits too - fancy napkins & napkin rings to put in some of them.

Recipes for hampers will be greatly appreciated. :D

Lots planned this year -

Bottled plums, thanks to Kate forcing me to start bottling

Spiced plum jam

Spiced Bramble jelly

Apple and plum mincemeat

Rhubarb vodka

Sloe gin

Limoncello

Hot wheat bags (microwaveable thingies)

Lip balm

Beeswax candles

maybe a cushion cover or 3

Cinnamon's spiced cranberry vodka - went down a treat last year and have advanced orders for this year :lol::lol:

Potted hyancinths and tete a tete daffodils in coconut matting pots.

Various biscuity type things.

Can't wait! Ho ho ho :clap::wink:

Edited to add - Debs, I use small bottles with a clip lid (Grolsch type) from Lakeland for boozy gifts. Not that cheap, but they are usually returned the following year for a refill.

Hot wheat bags (microwaveable thingies)

Lip balm

What wheat do you use, I wanted to make one for my Nan, but wasn't sure if standard bird food stuff was ok :anxious: ...and lip balm, DD's friends would love this....recipes pleeeeeeaaaase

What bottles do you get when you make liqueurs etc

I save all my vinegar bottles & any other "nice" bottles throughout the year, to be honest I think the contents disappeared quite quickly last year so I'm glad I didn't go over the top on the bottles!!! I did get a few bottles from Oil & Vinegar now I think of it.........
