Joojoo
Hi I'm thinking of buying some of these and just wondered how effective they are? Do they leave clothes etc badly creased when you take them back out again?
bluekarin
I have been researching these recently. I have bought loads from various places (including Waitrose/Jonh Lewis) and none of them seem to keep the air out and the clothes, or whatever you compacting, compact. The one's I'm using now are Packmate (I think) from Robert Dyas and they are about to be returned as the plastic split where you do them up at the top and the other one just inflates within an hour. From what I can see of all those I have bught, they are made from too stiff a plastic and it needs to be much softer and more maliable. So, if anyone has found some that keep their air tight seal, I'd love to hear it too! Oh, and in answer to your question, I don't know if they make your clothes creased as the bags have never stayed flat for long enough to find that out
Olly
Yes they do crease your clothes - I'd only use these for long-term storage, e.g. summer stuff you are going to keep away until winter is over, when you'd want to air it and iron it again. I had some and thought they were great, but the seal did give up in the end, however I have always blamed this on the fact that they were under the bed and the cat slept on top of them ... Mine were from Lakeland I believe.
Karen & co.
We had some years ago, but the seal went on them quite quickly, I just assumed they had been damaged but they weren't Tried another make and the same thing happended. They look really good for things like leeeping bags etc, but don't quite seem to be as good as the adverts!! Karen x
Lesley
I wish we had some leeping bags Karen - they sound like fun! I thought ours were faulty as well as air leaked back in - ours were from Argos. I used them for pillows, some are still OK but others have re-inflated. Sheilaz
This is something I've been researching. My conclusion is the same as others here, the plastic splits too easily. A friend who knows these things has changed from vac-compact (thrown out, split) to squash-it-in compact. Takes up a bit more space, but looks neat and sturdy. Hers were from Argos, I'm going there later today!
bluekarin
I saw some recently where by you fill the bag up and then squash it down yourself (no need for a hoover). I'm trying to remember where I saw them now
Seagazer
I've tried several of these from different places and they always re-expand. I could really do with some good bags for storing my duvets etc from the caravan but feel that I'll be wasting my money.
The Dogmother
I once had some (Betterware I think) what a waste of time and money that was - they always let air back in, no matter how I used them. Gave up in the end.
bluekarin
I HATE Betterware with a passion. I've bought things off them in the past that were useless so when the people dropped the catalogue round I left a note asking them not to leave them here as I am not interested. If they do leave them here then they will be put in the bin. I did give them a chance so it took two notes, but they got the message and don't leave them with us anymore. I just found it an inconvienience to answer the door to hand back a catalogue (although I left it outside, OH or the kids would invariably bring it back in ) that I didn't want! I'm sounding like an intolerant person there. I'm really not!
Joojoo
Hmmmm I didn't realise they were so unreliable (thanks Omlet ). Just as well I checked on here first . I don't think I'll bother now. It was only for some pillows and blankets. Thanks anyway
WitchHazel
I would recommend buying them from Lakeland. Keep the receipt. If there is a problem, eg they re-inflate, then Lakeland's fabulous no quiblle guarantee means they will give you your money back.
