Hi peeps does anybody know if the old $5 notes are still OK to use in the US? DS has been given the new ones, but he had some of the old money given to him by MIL so he is a bit worried. I haven't seen or heard that they have been withdrawn yet - so I think they are more like the old £20 notes - still legal tender for the time being. But I could be wrong.

Its the same with the £20 notes, the old ones can still be used, but are no longer being minted.

I'm sure they would have had notices at the travel agents if they weren't . I thought they would be fine.

Thanks Mark anyway. I gather the boys missed their connecting flight (plane delayed before take-off for an hour and then someone was sick on the plane - ewwww). So they are in Philly at the moment and had an hotel for the night, hopefully getting to California today. Such a shame, because they only had hand luggage so they could make a speedy dash for the connection. It's certainly going to be a big adventure for them! Well, looking on the bright side - they weren't sent straight back home!
