chunky monkeys Mum
Hi More advice please! We have had our three posh girls since mid June - Lucy the Araucana was picked on at first by the other two, but things quickly settled down and they were quite happy. Then along came the ex-batts and after a long round of intros, not without incident, they all got along together and have been living happily together in the cube, since the beginning of the month, free ranging for most of the days. Tonight we have noticed that nearly everyone is picking on poor old Lucy again, who has only recently come into lay. They have all gone to bed now, but why would they start to pick on her again like this? Is it because she has come into lay? Is there anything we can do to make Lucy's life a bit more pleasant? We do have a spare Eglu, should we put her in there at night (tonight I observed her being trampled, as well as being pecked!). Many thanks for reading
Sarahsausage
Oh bless, poor Lucy! I recently had trouble with my ex-batts, after almost a year of living happily, Betty and Gladys suddenly started picking on Rita, pecking her, pulling feathers and standing on her, this went on for several days and was awful to witness. I read on the forum a quick squirt with water would sort them out and it did! It took a few days but now they have stopped, you need to squirt the offenders straight away so they realise that if they pick on a fellow chicken they get a blast of water! Hope that helps and works for you too
Ain't Nobody Here
Oh dear . There seem to have been a few posts recently about this happening . I'm getting a bit of bullying too but we're only at week 3 so it's not unexpected. I'm trying the water squirting treatment too - it certainly stops the bully but it's hard to spot it every time . I wonder if you should separate some of the bullies rather than poor Lucy? If you took a couple of the worst offenders out perhaps the others would stop? Space Chick
I agree with ANH, give the worst offenders a squirt and a time out, not poor Lucy
BocBoc
Hmmm - our new chook Agnes seems to be the bully of the new bunch. I like the water pistol idea - thanks Wish we still had our old girls - they all got on so well together

I reckon they are all jealous of Lucy's lovely blue eggs - viewtopic.php?f=37&t=52086 Thanks for all of your help (yet again )
