helsbels
does anyone else have leghorns and are they all completely mad? surferchic (if anyone has seen the chicken on 'surfs up' you'll know why she's called that) is the madest, nuttiest, completely entertaining chicken we've ever come across I lost her for half an hour on Sunday to find she'd walked into the house, up the stairs and was sitting in the laundry basket in our bedroom with her floppy comb poking out of the top as I write she's standing on the oustide window ledge watching me intently and pecking at the window to be let in we've only had her a few weeks and I was a bit unsure as theyre quite odd looking and slightly built but we have to say she's a super chic

Ain't Nobody Here
Please tell me you have a photo of her in the laundry basket . (I have to admit to not choosing a white leghorn recently as all of them were in a separate field from the other chickens and as I watched, one of them who was still with the others, hopped onto a very high wall, sauntered along it and joined her pals .) Sounds like I'm missing out on some entertainment, though .
JanTheDiver
I have a Black Rock (Hester) who is a bit 'Special' too. She stands in the play pen and then just decides to jump sideways for no reason at all. Sometimes the others give her a wide berth, I think this is the reason
craftyhunnypie
Yes my Smartie was crackers....like something out of the Muppets. Her comb was so big & like a bonnet. I really miss her & would love another white leghorn one day.
helsbels
I dont have a photo alas but I am certain she will try it again! After I wrote on Tues I opened the window and she strolled in, hopped onto the table, hopped onto my DDs highchair and promptly walked up the stairs into DDs room and onto the bookcase - no doubt to read something inspiring like blackberry farm or mrs tiggywinkle if she does it again I shall catch her on camera and post it at least she gives me lots of laughs - unlike my broody hybrid lilly who has managed to roll all but one precious cream legbar egg out of her nest today and now theyre stone cold hey ho xx

Snowy
My Sugar whitestar was completely loopy as well. Very entertaining birds, I'd have another one tomorrow. The first time I've ever had to clip both of a chickens wings though. It was the only way I could keep her off the veg patch (the one surrounded by an 8' fence )
Laura & CTB
My whitestar did a vertical take off eight foot to the top of the run on the first night I got her - wondered what on earth I'd let myself in for thankfully she gave that up and now just scoots round the garden like a mad thing. She is completely fearless for a tiny girl, beats up my huge bluebelle and is at the moment in training to be my "shoulder" chicken I'm so glad I got her. Aren't those huge floppy combs just great too?
chickencam
My White Star was just really nervey she never really seemed happy. She did have an amzing floppy comb though

smokiechicken1969
I have met people that question why i would want to keep chickens if i dont breed them or eat them? if they spent half an hour watching their antics they would be hooked too. i have considered cancelling my tv licence before now and just view the chooks instead. if only i could get one of the to read the news i think animals have such wonderful appeal, but there is something very special about those little feathery comedians. keep posting your stories everybody they lighten my day! Space Chick
We call watching them "Chook tv" in my house, and I have just yesterday reduced the number of channels on my Sky subscription
