kez
Hi Omleteers We're thinking of having a downstairs toilet. We can't have an ordinary toilet because there's not enough angle for the flow. So, the only solution is a Saniflow. Has anyone got a saniflow? If, so are they any good? The only reports I've heard aren't very favourable. Thanks for your help in advance
Redwing
My FIL has one In short. it stinks! I refuse to use the downstairs loo when I am there Also you have to be really careful what goes in them, really tricky broaching that with visitors so FIL has left the instruction label on his which just looks tatty! My official word on Saniflows is......minging FIL's is an older model, maybe they are better nowadays
Yorkshire Pudding
We have one at work. It is one of three loos on site that are accessible for people with disabilities. It was installed when our block was converted into the SEN base, they went for the Saniflo to avoid installing the wide drain pipe and have regretted it ever since. It breaks down CONSTANTLY, I'm sorry to say. Then each time, the electrician says it's a plumbing fault, the plumber says it's the electrics and it's out of action for months at a time. We also have huge problems with people putting things in that shouldn't go down the macerator. However, even loo roll, if enough is used, can block it. Unblocking it is not nice. And on Monday mornings, not having been flushed all weekend, it reeks. It is also VERY noisy when the macerator runs, no chance of nipping discreetly to the loo and I wouldn't want to use it if someone was sleeping nearby. Sorry but I too think they're more trouble than they're worth.
Jillus
Do not believe the ads, they are horrible, never work properly and the noise of the macerator is dreadful. I would get the plumber to take another look, when we were having our ensuite surveyed the plumber told me 'We always have a solution!' WarrensWorld
Saniflow, to be avoided like the plague. Just wait until you have to unblock the thing, (and you will) you'll know what I mean.
Drew and Alan
Hi! When we bought our house, we got our plumber to put a saniflo (well its not a saniflow by brand, but it is a macerator) in to one of our bathrooms and we dont like it!!!!!!!!!!!!! its not noisey and is very compact and modern looking with just a silver touch pad you have to touch to make it flush. but but but!!! its 'poo' at flushing you have to flush it twice to get it to clear (ok too much information, but just want you to realise!) and as we have lots of people to stay its a bit annoying (and for us being two guys not familiar with certain female products, its also embarrasing )having to tell people not to put certain things down the loo! for example no 'girly' products, no face wipes, cotton wool pads etc as it clogs the macerator... our friend once by habit threw her make up remover wipe down the loo, flushed it as normal and all looked well. but the toilet got used later that day and we discovered the face wipe had blocked it and it wasnt a nice job for our plumber to empty the toilet and fix it fortunatly our plumber is very good looking so that helped us cope

redhotchick
Gosh! I never realised they were so inefficient. I think the message was pretty clear!
Guest
A bit late catching up with this thread, but I agree with everything that has been said! We had one in a cottage we rented on holidaty one year, and I hated it! It made random noises at all times of the day and night, and threatened to spew its contents out all over the place on several occasions during the 1 week we were there! I made a mental note not to stay anywhere that has Saniflow again!
Chook n Boo Mum
Our friendly plumber almost had a heart attack when I asked about Saniflo.........general consensus on here agrees with him !! Sha x

kez
So thats a no then ..... It's definately a NO! With all the comments from you all I have finally convinced my DH not to have a Saniflo He spoke to the builder again and he can now fit an ordinary toilet Think he just didn't want to do the extra work involved. In a few weeks we should have a nice downstairs toilet NOT SANIFLO I knew I could rely on you guys to fight my corner. Thank you
