Feeder doors keep closing when I walk away

Its finally arrived My long awaited arrived yesterday minus the foot bar and Link boards but at least it is here. Today a courier delivered the missing parts so it looks like I will be able to go and buy my soon, maybe tomorrow. Is it better to collect them late in the day so they can go in the cube and settle or to buy them in the morning so they can get used to their surroundings in daylight?. I have bought a bag of layers pellets and some mixed corn, should young birds have anything more? I will give them plenty of greens. The question is what birds do I buy? I would like at least two to be good layers, is it better to buy two of each or is it ok to have 4 different ones?. I did read Fenton Blue were good but I have not seen any advertised anywhere? Can any one advise Please Thanks Tina

I can highly recommend the sweetie, mine lays a lovely white egg every day without fail, and she is such a character - very cheeky and very nosey!!

I don't think you'll be able to sit about all day waiting to get your girls late in the afternoon . Go as soon as you get up .

 

Choosing four different ones is good as then you're more likely to get different coloured eggs .

If your buying hybrids then 4 different ones will be fine.

 

When you get them as far as i can tell makes no difference. When i got them in the day i just lifted them into the coop by the eggport door with the door shut left them for a minuite or so then opened the door to the run and i've never had to shoo them to bed.

 

If they are in the run you probably want to get them grit. You can put it in a little pot and they just take what they need of it

Have fun choosing them. Just choose ones you like the look of. If you are getting hybrids I think they all lay really well.

 

You'll need a pot of mixed grit/oyster shell for them as well.

Well all 4 new chickens have gone into the cube - the victim went in first and she is in the nest box, the other 3 are on the roosting bars - I will name them all tomorrow.

 

I gave them a quick spray with diluted vinegar, they smell like fish n chips now!

 

I really dont want to take her back as she seems the clever one, the test will be if the others peck her and draw blood, if that does happen I will have to think again.

 

I would like to upload some pictures but cant work out how to do it. I have uploaded the pictures onto photobucket. Anyone out there got foolproof instructions?

If you look at the first thread on the chicken section, it tells you how to add photos. I've only just learned how to do this and resize and everything. Someone will post a link if you need it shortly...(i haven't found how to post links yet or else I would do it)

I would like to upload some pictures but cant work out how to do it. I have uploaded the pictures onto photobucket. Anyone out there got foolproof instructions?

 

If the pictures are on PB, it's quite simple to get them onto here..........if I can do it anybody can !!!

 

I assume you know to have both websites running in two separate windows, then you can flit from one to the other easily.

Resize the picture to "Medium" size so it's a sensible size for the forum to deal with! this size in fact....

 

 

 

There is a panel entitled "share this image" under the photo, at the bottom is a block called IMG code, click on that with your mouse & a yellow message flashes up "copied".

 

Go back to Omlet & your "post a reply" board & press the ctrl & v buttons together & in theory the code will appear on your message.

 

If you want to check before submitting it, press preview.....

Glad it worked, I was flitting backwards & forwards between PB & Omlet to make sure I had it as clear as possible!!
