Introductions a success!

Recommended Posts

Hoorah - all the girls get on together now and 3 out of the 5 are laying quite happily. Glad I did the introductions now and not wait !!

Hilda is the brown one, Elsie on the left, Doris is the Black one in the foreground and Grace on the right. Marjorie probably took the photo!!

Hi, how long did the intro take? Am at day 2 of intros! It's not going too badly so far.

I didn't follow the normal best practice  , purely because of lack of space and the fact that there was only 4 days between the first set and 2 set of birds. It took about 3 weeks before the 2 white ones would come out of the cube to feed with the 3 others. They all slept together without any issues from day 2 but just the feeding was a problem. We ended up ranging Hilda, Doris and Marjorie and closing Elsie and Grace in to the run. They built up a tolerance, but it was about week 3 that they all started to get on. Elsie and Grace have the odd tussle between them. Considering Grace stood up for Elsie who was getting all the aggro, it is a bit of a wonder, but that's the pecking order.

All 5 of them come up to the decking and tap on the window for corn time at about 4pm, without fuss, so they must be getting on !!

Hope yours go okay. I know patience is a virtue, but a couple of weeks should see them settle in to your routine.

Ah, that sounds good though. I bet it was lovely when they all started to get on together. I love that they knock on the window for corn. Well done!

I am enjoying the introducing and will take it slowly. It gives me time to extend the chicken run. hehe.

I think my silkie loves my lavender araucana though. They act quite similar.
