My Gorgeous boy is ill again- UPDATED

Recommended Posts

Simba, my sweet abyssinian is facing yet another challenge to his health this year. He is 13 next week and a more gorgoues and sweet natured cat I have never known. He is always the ifst to look after new kittens, look after the puppy, lets the kids play with him and push him round in a dolls pram (when they were little not now!!) and loves to snuggle up into your neck and purr for england. At the beginning of the year he was very very ill with pancreatits, but thanks to some wonderful vets and he pulled through and has been full of beans again. This weekend he started walking into things and being very cautious about where he was going and we were certain he was blind. Sure enough he has two partially detached retinas and can see very little at the moment - the worry is the cause which has yet to be diagnosed - he may have renal failure (like my other old boy) or it may be something else. We are awaiting the results of a blood test and a trip to a eye specialist who is local and very good with animals but not especially so with people! He seems fairly happy in himself and is eating well, bt I do wor about him and he will have to be an inside cat now. Here's hoping tomorrow bings some positive news...........

Have now got my specialist appointment for Monday afternoon. The news is a bit odd though - there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with Simba's kidneys - which is good- but it does mean that there may be something more sinister going on so not sure whether to be happy or not. :? guess we will have to wait and see what Monday brings...........

Have left Simba at the vets ow so they can do all manner of tests. HIs kidney and thyroid function are good tho he does have a heart murmour which we knew about earlier this year when he was ill. They will take his blood pressure, ultrasound his eyes and maybe x ray his head to try and find to what is going on. Vet was much politer than expected so that was good. So have to wai and see if anythin shows up on the tests. He doesn't think his sight will be restored, but we need to find the cause and see if th can be treated. So still waiting.............. :anxious::anxious:

He is home now - they can't repair his eye sight :( But we know his kidneys and thyroid are OK. So they are waiting on blood tests - may be his heart or a brain abnormality -he has tablets for hypertension in the meantime and I will go back next wednesday for further info. Poor baby is cuddled up on me at the moment and we will just have to wait and see.....

Well I'm blowed!! Just got back form the referral vet and as I have supsected for the last few days, Simba's sight is returning!!!:shock: He has complete retinal RE-ATTACHMENT in both his eyes. He has some sort of vision in his left eye again, and they are hoping that give bit more time he will regain some sight in his right eye :clap: His blood pressure is down and they think it is pre renal failure that has caused it. The referral vet is well chuffed, and my own vet was gobsmacked, but thinks it could only happen to one of my cats.:oops: So thanks for all the positive vibes from the forum - my Simba is soooooooooooo appreciaitive.
