Auto feeder open and close button on app

I put some of Buttons eggs in the incy to see if fertile. I have candled just (5 days) & I can see definite veins & 'blob' in 2 of them, maybe 3. Other 3 were clear.

I'll candle again on Saturday/ Sunday day 9/10. I can always definitely tell then.

I am really hoping for a red frizzle. I'm not sure if I will keep them or sell them on yet - I will see. The thing is, whatever I breed - I get so attatched to - hubby just rolls his eyes. I'm supposed to be breeding & keeping the frizzle gene going.

Spongebob passed it on to little Button. I just hope Button passes it on to her offspring.

 

Button is mainly black, but with cuckoo stripey feathers. The cockerel she has been with is red/ partridge plain feathered. I wonder what I will get. I wish I understood genetics.

Good Luck, however I think that if you cross a frizzle with a frizzle then they aren't 'proper' frizzles??? If that makes any sense!

Youre right Tom, apparently you get a percentage of over frizzled chicks with brittle feathers and/or bald patches

 

Emma has obviously aware of that and has avoided falling in to that trap though - the cockerel in this case is a smooth one

No I am very aware of that.

I am putting my black/cuckoo frizzle hen to my smooth red/partridge cockerel

 

Smooth x Plain = approx 50% frizzle.

I do study a lot about breeding & research everything before doing anything. I would hate to make any mistakes as I always have the best interest of any animal at heart.

 

Thanks for your concerns - it's nice to know others care as much as I do.

Yes it would & you shouldn't do it. I certainly wouldn't! Button is mine & the cockerel I looked after for a friend & he lived with Button for a bit. He was a bit frisky, so I thought they would be fertile.

Well I candled again & I do have 3 definites! They were swimming about like mad - it was amazing as always to see. So not too long to wait with them being bantams. Last time I hatched these (their mummy) - they pipped at 18 days. As soon as I stopped turning they were wiggling like crazy. Day 19, they were all out!

I wonder how many will be frizzle?

I love it when you can see the embryo moving inside - its really clear with the dove eggs because the shells are so thin

 

Hopefully you will have a couple of frizzles too!

I stop turning the eggs tomorrow about 4 ish. However, they are wiggling like mad. Egg number 2 is jerking - so I think that will pip & hatch first. It's getting exciting now. They are all frizzle / pekin bantams, so could be out by Tuesday - day 19. The last lot were.

All set up - new bulb put in & a spare in the waiting. I wish I was a chick - it looks very clean & cosy.

I did think I'd lost my marbles ( no pun intended) - but have found them in a drawer.

It's day 18 now - they've stopped turning & are wiggling like mad.

Their mummy pipped at day 18 & was out early hours of day 19.

 

If I get any chicks from these 3 - that makes the mighty Spongebob a grandad!

Hiya everyone - number 2 egg has pipped! Won't be long now. I think I'm going to miss the grand moment as I'm going knitting group & then to the hairdressers.

I can't wait to see what colour we get (chick, not my hair)!

Egg number 2 hatched about 15 minutes ago! It looks to be black - but we will see once it has fluffed up, as you can't tell when chicks are wet.

We have named it Tiddlywinks!
