joybelle
I have had to separate her from my other six as she was having a terrible time with them. After living reasonably well together for two years they started attacking her very badly drawing blood and pinning her to the floor. She has always been bottom chook but apart from the odd chase they left her alone. Well it got so bad she wouldnt come out of the cube in the morning so I separated her. She is in a area where she can still see the others but is not a happy chook being on her own. I am wondering if I did the right thing and will I be able to put her back with the others. At least this way she isnt being hurt and my nerves are not on edge!! Your thoughts would be very appreciated. Joy x
Tutti Frutti
I'm only a novice but my gut reaction is...could you think about bringing one or two of your friendliest chooks out with her for company whilst she recuperates? But you'd end up with two mini flocks - so I honestly don't know, could that make matters worse? I'm so sorry for Marmalade... poor little girl. Why is it always the sweeties who come off worse? This is the side of chicken keeping that I haven't got my head round yet, it's so heartbreaking!! Sorry I can't help but I hope Marmalade regains her strength soon. joybelle
To be honest none of the others have ever been that tolerent with her. It is very sad to see them being so nasty Joy x
Tutti Frutti
What are the chances that, if you split them up into two groups, you'll be breaking their existing pecking order and they have to reset and re-establish themselves? Would that help Marmalade during the period of upheaval? Not much by the sounds of it, sorry, I don't know what to suggest but so glad she has you on her side and caring for her! Patricia W
Can you take out the worst bully and see if that makes a difference to the rest of them? If she is out for a couple of days, it might get them to reset the pecking order? Tricia
