A chickychickychick-ENN!!
Is it just me, or does anyone else want to move in with them? For those who haven't seen it, The Family is a fly on the wall documentary on C4 on Wednesdays, and this series is following the lives of an Indian family in West London. I completely heart them. They are so loving, quietly wise, hard working, intelligent, supportive and so wonderfully playful with each other. It's just an hour of crackling, fun, love. Such a contrast from series one, which featured a family who grunted at each other and were quite emotionally illiterate and grunty and stressed. I heart this family, and want them cloned and living on every street in Britain.
chickencam
I watched the first series and can't say as I warmed to any of them, so maybe I'll have a look on catch up tomrrow.
poachedegg
I watched the 1st episode and last nights - I think the way they (especially Mum) has embraced their son's wife and her family issues has been marvellous and think they are very endearing. Love the bit where the little girl picked up the Buddha statue and kept saying 'Nanny' and her Dad had to stop himself laughing!
Cinnamon
I did try with it,but gave up midway through the first episode. They all do seem lovley, but the Dads atitude to his wife (get me a tea) really annoyed me & I just couldn't carry on watching I especially liked the young couple who are to be married - both really attractive & modern people

bluekarin
Was it the first one last night? I thought it started last week. I only caught the last half an hour and I too loved it. We watched a bit of last years family but I felt there were almost set up situations to make things more dramatic (the son getting an ear pierced for eg) and didn't really like them. But this years I think are excellent. I found the father a bit sexist, but is that just how their culture is - or was he just messing about a bit? Under all the apparent indifference there was a real genuine respect for each other. And a lot of love. I missed why the DIL was shouting at her auntie on the phone. Anyone else know? A chickychickychick-ENN!!
I got the impression because things had been so bad wit DIL's mum that the aunty on the phone was playing devil's advocate about her birth family and was slagging off this new family. DIL is still massively hurt about the first family, who called the police out to accuse her of bigamy because they don't like her hubby to be - really hardcore nasty stuff, plus she is fiercely loyal to her new family because they have been so loving and supportive towards her. I think that was the gist of it. As for the sexist dad - in so many ways, he's not. It's just different cultural values. There's a lot of touchy-feely across the generations and in the couples. I don't think the mum would tolerate a 'proper' sexist. She pushes him about a bit, lovingly and humorously. Oh I love them!
Egluntyne
I couldn't see beyond the grubby pillowcase, in the trailers, so didn't bother, I'm afraid.. Not my kind of programme as a rule anyway.
