rachick
I do a lot of juicing of fruit and veg. The juicer leaves a mushy pulp, do you think this would be a good treat for the chickens? What can/can't I give them? We don't juice much citrus fruit (I think I've seen somewhere that you shouldn't feed citrus to chickens?) it's mainly apples, carrots, pineapple, spinach, sometimes berries..... I'd be grateful for any advice PS No chickens yet - they're coming tomorrow with my new green "Go".....yes, I promise to post pics as soon as I can!!! Tutti Frutti
Wow that's exciting!!! Bet you don't get much sleep tonight Please let me know how you get on with the Go, as I'm secretly wanting one (don't tell Mr Futti!). I feed my girls chopped up (so it doesn't get stuck in the crop) carrots, sweetcorn, tomatoes (chicken chocolate! But only if skinned), whole corn on the cob (shark feeding frenzy), occasional bits of spaghetti, apples and every now and again, a tiny bit of banana skin (they don't like the flesh ). Weirdly, mine ignore greens like broccoli and cabbage (bit like me!)... I only give them less than a handful in the afternoon - I make sure they eat their pellets during the day as that has all the protein and nutrients they need to be healthy layers. So I'd say, go for it once in a while and as a teatime treat - but I'd leave out the pineapple, as it seems a bit acidic to me. Just my gut feeling - would be pleased if someone could correct me Also, your girls will let you know what they like and don't like! Maybe try blending individual fruit/veg just so you can see what they like first and then start making them cocktails
Space Chick
I always give me girls blitzed veg and they love it, basically I put my veg peelings (not potato), cauli leaves etc into a food processor with some bokashi bran and blitz it until its all little pieces. What you are suggesting doesn't sound that different, so I think they'll be fine with the mush, but I wouldn't give pineapple either. Make sure you let us know when your Eglu Go and girls arrive, and we look forward to the pics
Chicken Shirl
Have I missed something. What is an Eglu Go.....?
The Dogmother
They do love fruit, but don't give them too much or they'll end up with the squits. As with any treats, it's best kept to a minimum and at the end of the day only, so they fill up on their pellets and get the best nutrition to lay eggs. Space Chick
You can access the run from the sides, and the back comes off, and that is how you access the eggs, as there isn't an egg port. I think that it isn't as usable a design. Pull the back off and chickens will charge out

Egluntyne
If you briefly shut the GO door whilst they are in the run, you should be able to retrieve the eggs without being knocked over by stampeding chickens.
prof
the go is made in china by injection moulding which makes it much lighter and thinner than the eglu classic (which is made in this country) sad i know i asked the guy when he delivered my

GEB
My girls get the pulp from the juicer. They love it all. Have never given them citrus fruit, but they go mad for pineapple and it has never caused me any problems.
