welovemarmite
i have abanedone my scarf that i am knitting as the wool is just not the weight that i need. I can't get to the shop just yet for new wool, but have found a pattern on the internet for a hat which should be great for the wool. I really want to start this tonight, but its needs markers to be placed.... i have none... what can i use? How about plastic bag ties? Couperwife
all a marker is, is a reminder to do something at a certain place so, anything like a little ring would work, erm, a cable tie? a bag tie? a hoop type earring, a piece of yarn (different colour to what you are knitting with or you might knit it into the pattern - or rather, I would knit it into the pattern ) have fun, whats the pattern like? cathy x
welovemarmite
its just a rib hat http://knitting-and.com/knitting/patterns/hats/footyhat.htm but i think i can cope with it!! The only new thing is k2tog and putting markers in so I think I should be able to manage it. I have a gorgeous alapce varieagated wool in manly autumn colours.... ubereglu
I tend to just thread a piece of different coloured yarn on the stitch I need to mark.

bigmommasally
Now I'm not a knitter so these may not be the sort of things you mean but found them completely by accident when browsing my favourite site and immediately thought of you. http://www.folksy.com/shops/yarnandcraft

Valkyrie
Mum always used the old nappy pins because they could fit more stitches on them.
docsquid
I use different-coloured yarn wrapped into the loop next to stitch that I want to knit, and then pulled out when it isn't needed. Seems to work quite well.
